PowerPoint for an exam walk-through looking at the AQA Question from May 2017. Differentiated starter: define the key words linked to male aggression and make links. Main: Analyse 5 key extracts that demonstrate male aggression with a focus on A01 and A02. Suggested answers are on the PowerPoint to guide students through each extract. Plenary: Draw a line graph to chart the intensity of male aggression across the play. Also includes a band 5/6 model response to the question so students can look at how to develop their writing into a top band style response.

A fully differentiated and potentially outstanding series of lessons offering various levels of differentiation. It invites students to explore 5 ways Scrooge is presented in Stave 1: outsider, uncharitable, miser, isolated and lacking festive spirit. Starter: Students annotate the 2 model paragraphs about Scrooge using the differentiated bronze, silver, gold criteria that links to the A01, A02, A03 mark scheme. Main: Students work in 5 groups. They each complete their paragraph based on their individual question. After this students carousel to share the answers. Plenary: Students understand the AQA mark scheme and grade their work against the English Literature criteria. Lesson 2: Recap 28 key quotations from Stave 1.

10+ Resources to teach students methods for comparing poems from the AQA anthology. Includes ideas for discriminating comparisons by both theme and method. The model examples come from the Power and Conflict AQA anthology and include plans for… The Emigree and Kamikaze Exposure and War Photographer. Exposure and Storm on the Island Tissue and Ozymandias Remains and Bayonet Charge Prelude and Ozymandias London and My Last Duchess There is also a blank template for students to practise using the 12 point comparative method on a question comparing Ozymandias and My Last Duchess. There is also a choice over a simple 4 paragraph methods based approach or a more advanced 2 paragraph conceptual approach. There is also a diamond ranking starter activity to get students to engage with the criteria for grade 8 and 9. There is also a resource with 3 tiers of difficulty depending on how confident students are at planning their own comparisons. Tier 1: Students add the analysis of the quotations. The topic sentences and recommended quotations are already filled in for them. Tier 2: Students must pick their own 3 quotations from each poem and analyse the quotations. Tier 3: Students must pick their own topic sentences, quotations and then analsyse the quotations. 3 A3 revision sheets, 1 A4 revision sheet and a set of revision cards. Sheet 1 has carefully selected key quotations for all 6 characters and carefully selected points about context for A03. Sheet 2 has quotations for 5 themes and exam questions based on each theme. Sheet 3 is a summary and brief explanation of 10 key quotations for each character. Sheet 4 contains a summary of key stage directions across the play. Sheet 1 contains suggested differentiated revision activities: Bronze: Apply a word from the word bank to each quotation. Silver: Link each quotation to a theme (age, gender, class, responsibility). Gold: Use the revision sheet to write essays on all 6 characters.

This was great for teaching students how to compare two poems from the Power and Conflict section of the anthology. Students follow the detailed writing frame to complete the comparison using the prompts and structure provided. The writing frame guides students to ensure they meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03. Also includes all lessons for teaching Poppies and Remains individually to prepare for the comparison with various resources.

Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations. In this six page A3 revision booklet, students read 25 carefully selected key extracts covering all Staves. It usually takes around 2/3 lessons for students to complete the booklet or you can set it as an extended homework task. For example RAG rate, paired questioning, find 5 quotations on each of the following themes etc. Also includes a slide for how to use the revision sheet as an extension activity by pairing up similar or contrasting quotations or by comparing the surface and hidden meanings. Also includes a test on the top 50 quotations to match them to 50 brief explanations. A great Friday period 5-type revision activity which uses the power of images to help students both explore and memorise 16 quotations. The worksheet features 16 quotes from Macbeth with 16 accompanying images. Students follow the differentiated success criteria and annotate the quotations for various shades of meaning. Includes answers which can be printed separately or to form double sided revision cards. When they have done this, I allow them to colour in the quotations. A lesson aimed at preparing students on how Shakespeare presents Macbeth’s and Banquo’s attitudes to the supernatural. It includes an exam question and a grade 9 model answer. To start with, the PowerPoint annotates the set extract and then annotates 7 quotes from outside the extract that link to the supernatural. There is also a slide explaining how to link to context for A03. I have also added a writing frame to help mid-ability students a coherent response that explores a theme in an extract and the play as a whole. Also includes a timeline tracing the supernatural across the play.
