Lesson on Chapter 10 of Animal Farm. Includes learning outcomes, starter, differentiated plenary, comprehension questions and a main activity involving comparing Orwell’s ending with the ending in two film versions (links to the films are included). This is useful for exploring how the films attempt to rewrite history by changing the endings to suit the target audience.

This resource summarises two ways of structuring a comparative poetry response for the power and conflict poems: the 4 paragraph ‘methods-based’ approach and the 2 paragraph ‘conceptual’ approach.

Ideal to set as an assessment after reading the first 5 chapters. Contains 3 carefully selected short extracts from chapters 2, 3 and 5. Students analyse how power is abused in each extract and answer the overall question: who is worse the humans or the pigs? There is a writing frame for students to follow to help analyse each extract and ensure they meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03.

Writing frame for comparing Storm on the Island and Exposure (AQA Power and Conflict). The AQA style exam question is as follows: Compare the ways the poets in Storm on the Island and one other poem (Exposure) present conflict with nature.

A useful for activity for helping students to remember key quotations while also testing their understanding of the novel as a whole. The quotations have been carefully selected to cover a range of themes. The answer sheet is also included.

This was great for teaching students how to compare two poems from the Power and Conflict section of the anthology. Students follow the detailed writing frame to complete the comparison using the prompts and structure provided. The writing frame guides students to ensure they meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03.
