A revision lesson on key quotations from Blood Brothers. Start by giving out the revision grid with only the quotations so students can analyse the top 6 quotations for each character. Then give out the answer sheet so students can compare their answers to the model. There is also a larger revision grid which contains quotations for each character linked to theme in case a theme question comes up.

Following on from my lesson on revision 3 quotations from each poem, this lesson revises 3 key words from each poem. Remembering the key words should activate students to remember the whole quotation and the significance of it. There are also two extension acitivites: an A to Z code for comparing the poems a quiz on context in all 18 poems.

Includes an exam style question, a suggested writing frame using prompts from the AQA website, a table for planning a response and recommended extracts to zoom out to. Ideal for examination revision. Also included is a resource offering 3 levels of differentiation to help guide students on how to structure a full length response on the following 4 themes/topics: children, materialism, ghosts, Christmas. Tier 1 difficulty (I do): Big idea, topic sentences and quotations are provided. Students add the analysis of the quotations. 20 Revision flash cards for 20 key quotations in Macbeth that encourage students to explore the impact of the quotations in a thorough and perceptive way. The cards are colour coded to link to assessment objectives A01, A02 and A03 and the methods are underlined. In each I try and ensure the analysis of the method leads directly on to a discussion of Shakespeare’s intentions and big ideas - informed by the Jacobean context. I recommend giving students the blank version first to find out what they can already say about each quotation before sharing the cards so they can identify the gaps in their knowledge.

Resources aimed at guiding students on how to structure exam resonses. Contains 4 partially completed exam responses for students to complete. There are 2 versions. The easier version includes the recommendation quotations and students add the inferences. The harder version requires students to select the quotations themselves before adding the inferences. Students can use the included top 100 quotation sheet to help them complete the harder version. The 4 topics are as follows: Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s marriage Banquo Macbeth’s fears Violence Also contains a guide on how to write a thesis-style introduction using a simple easy to imitate 3 part formula. ‘A thesis-style introduction that demonstrates your understanding of the question can be a really helpful way of starting your answer. It shows that you are ‘in charge’ of your essay and that you know what you think. It can provide a strong foundation for the rest of the essay. Keep referring back to the introduction to create a coherent response.’ AQA examiner’s report 2022 Creating a thesis-style introduction is a challenge for many students but is essential in helping students to reach levels 4-6 in the mark scheme. I have produced a simple 3 point structure to help students quickly generate a thesis statement in timed exam conditions. There is an example of the 3 point structure being used and then students attempt to imitate the structure for 4 other exam-style questions.

A series of 2 lessons which use ostinati from Bach’s Toccata in D minor as a stimulus for a popular arrangement of this piece (original music also provided). GarageBand or a similar programme is required or performances can be created live. All parts and composition tasks are differentiated and audio files and suggested listening are also provided. An A3 revision sheet containing what I consider to be the 100 most important quotations in A Christmas Carol alongside a brief explanation of the quotation to help contextualise it. There are many ways students and teachers can use the revision sheet. Below are four recommended ways. TASK 1: Read through the 100 quotations and RAG rate them in terms of how confident you would be including each quotation in an exam-style response. TASK 2: Add letters to link quotations to the following themes: C = Christmas, F = Family, G = Greed, I = Isolation. P = Poverty, R = Responsibility, S = Settings T = Transformation. TASK 3: Work in pairs to test each other on the quotation explanations. TASK 4: Choose 5-10 quotations to develop with further inferences into full analytical paragraphs which explore Dickens’ meaning, methods and motives in depth. Also includes analysis of the top 10 single words to analyse in the novella with high level explanations of how to zoom in and then how to zoom out to explore Dickens’ authorial purpose.
