I give students the blank version first and compare it to the final version after they have attempted to fill each box.

The Grade 5 version provides 6 quotations with clear and relevant inferences for each BIG IDEA. The Grade 9 version provides 6 quotations with perceptive and assured inferences to meet the top band of the mark scheme.

This lesson is perfect for a lesson in a school library to get students to think about opening their minds to new genres.
To prepare for the lesson you need 7 tables.
Each table must include 4-7 books in the following genres:

Tier 1 difficulty (I do): Big idea, topic sentences and quotations are provided. Students add the analysis of the quotations.
Tier 2 difficulty (We do): Students must choose 2 quotations to support each topic sentence and analyse the quotations.
