Increase student understanding and retention using this Frayer Model strategy! This sheet has two half-sheets on it that are identical to print and disburse to students. The model will allow students to engage with new terminology with multiple access points. The students will put the term in the center circle, represent it with a visual, list synonyms/antonyms, define it as well as use it in a sentence.
As you introduce new terminology through the week, students can complete this template with partners, small groups, independently or use it as a homework! This strategy won't disappoint!

This simple but effective lab allows students to observer and draw inferences about diffusion. Students will need three cups set up that are each of the following temperatures (warm, cold, and room temperature). They will need to put one drop of food coloring in each at the same time as well as start a timer once they do so. In one minute increments, the students will record what they see for three minutes total. Students will then reflect on the diffusion of the food coloring being compared in each of the three temperatures. The temperature component can be connect to dissolving easily and the recording change over time is also important.
Materials needed: clear cups (3 per group), some way to both lower and raise temperature of the water prior to experimentation, food coloring, and a timer.

Aligned with EngageNY and Common Core, check out this template that can easily be adapted for addition and subtraction using a place value chart as well as multiplying and dividing by tens, hundreds, etc. Students can also use this to help develop conceptual understanding of exponents and how this operations cause each number to "slide" up or down the place value chart as opposed to the decimal being the one that shifts.
