This resource is suitable for ages 12 and over and can be used in
an assembly, within tutor time, in the classroom to support history,
citizenship and PSHE education teaching and Into Film Club setting.
Diversity on film is a key topic in the film industry and this assembly is aimed at helping young people to discuss the representation of female characters on film using the Bechdel test as a framework. The Bechdel test is used in this assembly as a fun way of analysing how women are represented on film, and starting a conversation about whether this is fair. Young people will apply the Bechdel test to clips from popular films before discussing how films break with tradition.
The extension activities will allow children to explore the issues presented in the assembly in a creative manner. The resource is suitable to be used in an assembly format, in a film club setting or for use in the classroom
Pupils design and make their own Paddington pop-up book.
Pop-up Paddington is inspired by Paddington’s second film adventure, Paddington 2. Activities support and encourage pupils to develop communication, active citizenship, problem solving and creative skills. Pop-up Paddington culminates in the creation and evaluation of a pop-up book featuring Paddington carrying out ‘odd jobs’ around the community.

A resource to work with the 2016 feature film Race, which tells the amazing life story of Jesse Owens and his performance at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, engaging audiences with the impact of an individual and events on the world stage both 80 years ago and today. This resource should be used with the accompanying Race PowerPoint presentation, which contains clips, stills and prompt questions to support delivery of all the activities outlined in these notes. In this resource young people explore the topic of inequality by engaging with and analysing clips from the film Kaakka Muttai (The Crow's Egg) set in Chennai, India. This cross-curricular educational resource takes students on an immersive Learning journey through Johnny English’s school for Secret Agents in training.
At the start of the programme, Johnny will set a mission for the class to protect their school and personal information from an incoming cyber-attack. Students aged 8 to 12 will then engage with STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects, learn about cyber-attacks and how to stay safe online, breaking codes and communicating secretly using science, all
whilst developing the necessary skills to become a secret agent during the course of the two lessons before having the opportunity to take part in an exciting design competition.
Each lesson is broken up into the following sections:

2022 was a pivotal year for women’s football, with the England Lionesses winning the European Championship – the first time that any England team, men’s or women’s, has won the title. England are set to return in 2023 when the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be played this July. This resource, suitable for use with learners aged 11–16, gives young people the opportunity to analyse how the sport of women’s football and the women who participate in it have been portrayed in a range of films across the years, before planning and producing a creative response to the topic.
The resource considers female football players and attitudes towards women in sport more generally. Learners will be given the opportunity to access archive, feature length and documentary film footage to discuss what football has looked like for girls and women over time from as far back as 1920.
Mamie Till-Mobley might not be a name that is widely recognised but her actions
following the brutal lynching of her 14-year-old son Emmett Till in Mississippi, 1955, caused a seismic cultural shift in the twentieth century and acted as the catalyst for the modern Civil Rights movement.
Mamie was a mother of one and public school teacher who became a revolutionary civil rights figure in the mid-1950s and campaigned until her death in 2003. Her transformation was marked by her resilience in harnessing her grief and anger towards her son’s murderers and the corrupt justice system of the southern states of the USA, which she used to teach the whole world about the impact of racism, inequality and injustice.
There are parallels with the death of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 in London and the activism of his mother Doreen Lawrence, now Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, OBE who kept his image, story and legacy in the public consciousness through media coverage and campaigning against legal injustice.
This immersive, exciting and varied resource will take young people on a quest to become Chopstick Warriors by teaching them about the history and handling of chopsticks. They will teach others and perform a range of challenges to perfect the art of the chopstick, then battle other competitors in school, culminating in The Rice Challenge, with the intention of being crowned Chopstick Master.
Teachers are provided with a fun downloadable ‘Chopstick Challenge' resource pack that includes how to create and run a Chopstick League within their school. This is an easy to use end of term resource designed to bring the school community together with an engaging and challenging project to help celebrate the end of the school year.
