A whole load of SPAG activities, mostly differentiated, which I made for my year 2 class. Includes: 1. Plurals: Notebook and one plural sheet based on Gruffalo. 2. Homophones: Powerpoint and two differentiated sheets with pictures. 3. Past Tense: Quick team work activity with regular and irregular verbs then differentiated worksheet where children decide which past tense word is correct/find the correct past tense word. 4. General SPAG activity for 2 lesson starters. 5. Form sentences using different words: Children make up (funny) sentences with the words given. 6. Word groups: Children have a picture (can easily be changed to fit in with your topic) and find nouns, verbs and adjectives that they can see/describe the picture with. Recorded in table below picture. They then make sentences with their words. 7. One dictation with many year 2 spellings. 8. Sentence forms: Children work in pairs and sort the sentences into statements, questions, exclamations and commands. 9. Full stop activity: What are sentences? Worksheet to add full stops. 10. Two differentiated sheets for mapping South America. Children make their own key of countries or fill in the key by colouring in the countries of South America. The challenges are based on Brazil and mapping cities/rivers. Works best when copied on/blown up to A3. Map for both attached in case your school has no atlases or not enough to go round. I made this resource for my year 2 class after teaching the fractions of shapes and to move them on using this model to find fractions of numbers. There are differentiated worksheets. This is how we did it: 1. Colour in the fraction that you have to find on the circle eg 1/2. 2. Look at the number you have to share (eg 6) and share it into the fraction shown (on the circle share 6 between the two halves). 3. Count how many each fraction has. 4. Check the amount is equal. I made this resource for my year 2 class. There are differentiated worksheets/challenges designed to use when learning about and =. You can either teach the whole class and just use the sheet ot do the following: I designed it so that the WAGD group can teach themselves while you teach the rest of the class about the signs. The WAGD group reads the first few sheets and does the started activity independently. When you send the rest of the class to work on the activity you can check in on the WAGD group and move them on to further challenges included. Differentiated for SEN as well - cutting an sticking crocodile signs. I made these worksheets for my year 2 class. It teaches them the skills of using partitioning with Dienes Cubes/ Base 10 in order to help them double numbers. It is very visual and they really understood it well. They drew the number that needed to be doubled twice and counted ones and tens to get the answer for its double. This is quite a fun activity for English lessons or Guided Reading lessons where children have to come up with a caption for a picture and then draw a picture for a given caption using inference skills and thinking about what might have happened. There are 14 worksheets and my class really loved it as well as a notebook to introduce the activity.

I made these sheets for my year 2 class to work on in mixed ability pairs. I think it would work with year 3 and 4 and possibly with high level year 1 children as well. Please note they are not differentiated! It worked very well though, I got them talking together in groups of 2. The skills practised are the following: - Question words: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking carefully about what kind of answer the question word asks for. It is done in two parts - one where they have to read a question and discuss what kind of thing they are looking for in the answer eg a place, a person etc. The second part has questions and possible answers, all multiple choice. There is no text but children have to work out from the question word which answer is correct by identifying if the question asks for a time, place, reason etc. - Inference: Looking at the clues in the text and using them to make sense of what happened - Language: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking about language choices, understanding words, picking out synonyms etc.

This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the Queen's 90th. Add the prices depending on your year group's needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with 90th Birthday Merchandise... There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of HRH's life. The powerpoint is not maths based, however, it gives you an idea of what the rooms look like, what the staff at the Palace do when they put on a meal etc.

This resource was made with year 2 in mind but is really suitable for infants and lower juniors. It consists of four parts: INFORMATION BOOK Children can do their own research using this 16 page long information book that I created about Brazil. It is attached in two formats: pdf and word doc so it can be edited. The contents of the book are as follows: 1. Country - Where is it? - What is the land like? - Rivers and Waterfalls - Cities - Weather 2. Sports - Football - Formula 1 - Volleyball - Pele 3. Olympic Games Rio 2016 - Olympic Games - Paralympic Games 4. Carnival 5. The Rainforest - What is the Rainforest - What do we get from the Rainforest? - Sad Fact! - What are the layers of the Rainforest? 6. Glossary COMPREHENSION SATs style comprehension based on the information book. It is differentiated for WT (Working towards), E (expected) and WAGD (Working at greater depth). BOARD GAME A board game where children can play in partners. It helps them recall facts learnt from the booklet about Brazil eg about the rainforest, weather, Olympics etc. POSTER ACTIVITY Children work in groups of three and create a poster about Brazil using the information book as starting point. They have the attached sheet as their success criteria which reinforces what needs to go on a poster (heading, sub-heading, facts, pictures, etc). They work together as team (criteria for that on sheet as well) and present the information using their neatest presentation skills. Can be differentiated by giving different children different roles eg scribe, researcher, illustrator... Teacher can then go around and in good old competition style give children stickers/points for each bit of the success criteria they have met. Winning team is the team that has the most stichers/points. I gave out stickers/points for each sub-heading and paragraph of information. My class loved it. Took them all morning and they were so engaged they wouldn't even want to go out for play! :)

Differentiated comprehension for year 2 about a letter from Brazil. A letter from Max to mum with questions including retrieval and inference questions. Powerpoint to introduce it with Brazil pictures and a practice comprehension with a few questions to discuss as class in talk partners. These little cards were made for reception, year 1 and for some children in year 2, who are learning the RML phonics sets 1-3. They can take the big cards home to revise and use them in school to highlight the sounds they know already. When they have completed a set or all sets, they can be awarded the phonics card (certificate) in assembly. Set 1 phonics are called the fish sounds Set 2 phonics are called the seal sounds Set 3 phonics are called the whale sounds (Food chain, getting bigger - that way the children don't know if their animal means that they are on track or behind...) This is a little trail which we put together for our year 2 classes for the space gallery in the London Science Museum. They loved it.

We decided to use the RML flashcards and rhymes to teach the sounds, so this is a breakdown of what sounds are taught when, sticking to the order in which RML is taught. It goes hand in hand with the flashcards from RML with all the lovely rhymes. I have written down all the sounds for year 1 from the new curriculum but put them in the RML order and added spelling patterns. For 2015/2016.

This is a document we produced to use for our guided reading sessions according to the new curriculum. It splits all curriculum objectives for each year group into: 1. Decoding 2. Comprehension / Retrieval 3. Inference / Relate 4. Language for Effect 5. Themes and Conventions 6. Others Easy to use. One sheet per guided reading group :) Or could be adapted to make student individual booklets.

A differentiated sheet I made for my year 2 class. Children add amounts using their number facts eg counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and counting in multiple of tens. I have also taught my class that if they know 2+3=5 then they know multiples of ten 20+30=50. There are a lot of opportunities to apply this on the sheets.

Lesson 1: Features of a report. Show children a report on the board. Talk about its features eg headings, subheadings, paragraphs and their jobs. Then give children a cut up report and ask them to put it back together and label the features. Challenge is answering questions about it. Eg What do I find in the third paragraph? (see notebook) Lesson 2: Vocabulary used in a report. Show children the report from yesterday. Go through what adjectives, connectives and openers are and ask children to investigate the report for VCOP. Record on sheet in mixed ability partners. Then write down one opener, adjective etc and make sentences about nocturnal animals orally.

Made this sheet for my year 1 and 2 team to help them with self-marking and peer-marking in English lessons. I laminated these posters and put them in their table boxes where they can easily use them. Also, as it is very visual, it is suitable for EAL learners.

Four easy steps, nicely illustrated. I made this to help my year 2 children to choose suitable books. They use it all the time now, especially when we go to the mobile library and choose books to take home. Also nice to display in the book corner. Enjoy.

I use this with all three of my SEN children. On a monday morning they come to school and it's on their desk. They then choose reward/treat for Friday afternoon that they will get if they have mostly ticked all sessions on the timetable for the week. It works really well and can easily be adjusted. Their 1:1 are very good at helping them reflect about their work.
