Can you really separate salt from water? Is it possible once the salt has been dissolved?
Please note this involves hot water - that’s why its graded between 3 and 5. This is suitable for younger students if supervised. This experiment could also take a few days to see results. Best done over two lessons (not back to back).
Throughout this experiment your students will test two theories. Those who think you can separate salt from water will be on a quest to prove the theory right. Those who think it cannot be separated will also be on a quest to prove their theory right.

This STEM Biology book has 5 in-depth experiments which can be performed in pairs/ groups or as a whole class.
Through out these experiments your students will be focusing on a multiple of skills. They will be engineering ways in which they can perform the experiment as well as implement it. Forecasting predictions and analysing conclusions. And of course actively doing an experiment.
The 5 experiment are created for you to use along side a STEM lesson. The key focus is on Biology with Math and Engineering working with it.
Experiments
Low Fat,Low Carb, or Low Taste?
Five Second Rule - this involves boiling water - supervision or whole class experiment
Take a spin
Taste Buds - This comes with a tongue picture for you to print out for each student doing the analysing. You can laminate this to add durability and make them reusable. Once you have completed the experiment, wipe clean and make sure they are dry before putting them away (they stick together if not)

Geometry all around us is an excellent add on to your geometry unit.
For many of your students, geometry is purely and solely used and heard of in Math. It is something they learn in school and is often set as homework. Most students do not see the relevance of geometry outside of the classroom. Therefor this project has been designed for students to gain an insight into the world of geometry our everyday lives in our natural and man-made world.
Goal
Working in small groups of 4 or 6, your students will create a collage showing examples of geometry in the world. They will also be writing a summary of their collages, highlighting examples of geometric shapes and principles.
**
Skills your students will cover
Identifying examples of polygons and other geometric shapes in the natural and man-made world
Classifying line segments as parallel or perpendicular
Classifying two-dimensional shapes by their sides and angles
Communicating Math ideas
Using technology (if you are using a computer)
Identifying line and rotational symmetry

Reading records are a good way to assess how much reading a child has done. This can be either at home, school or in reading groups. However, its not just about a child reading for a certain amount of minutes, it’s also about their understanding (comprehension) of what they have read.
Some students find it very easy to skim read or are able to decode words with ease but when it comes to the actual understanding of the text or book they have read it can sometimes seem as if they haven’t read it at all. That is not the case its just their comprehension.
This reading record sheet aims to help you to help them by knowing if they understand what they have read.
What’s on the reading record sheet?
There are 7 sections (1 week of reading)
Each day has a different comprehension question (some are easier than others)

This book review template is not just about summarising and re-writing. First the comprehension of the book your kiddos have read is grasped. Once sheet one is completed and has been checked by the teacher they can move on to creating their book review booklet.
Comprehension page
The comprehension page ask your students to summarise key parts. I recommend asking them to use bullet points as this will be easier to go back and double check.
Review Booklet
The booklet review will print on letter size paper and fold into four. Once the parts have been filled out your kiddos can decorate the cover and other parts by coloring sections in.

This fun country fact file template will have your kiddos entertained for hours. There are several ways this fact file can be used. Here are a few ideas for you;
*** In pairs** – This is a great opportunity to observe how your kiddos interact in a partnership. Watch who takes the lead and who designates what.
*** In small groups** – This is an excellent time to work on a project as part of a group activity. Again, this is a good time for observation.
Homework – Send home as a weekend project or over the course of a short period of time.
Speech project – Speeches are often hard for some kiddos, making it fun and interesting with all the research being conducted by them. There are many things that this would cover in the ccss.
Supply – That supply file would be excellent with this added activity. This would be ideal for morning/afternoon work.
Individually – Independent work.
What your students will need to complete the country fact file;
They will need access to the internet – this is so they can research their country of choice
If no internet access is possible then they will need access to some material with the country either you have provided them with or of their own choosing.
Please note the worksheets can be printed on A3 by changing your printer settings!

This verb game has been created to help with the understanding of what a verb is. This is an ideal, fun and interactive way to learn or reinforce. This verb game can be played as pairs, in small groups or by splitting your class into equal groups.
How to play this verb game?
Students can play this in pair, in small groups or as a whole class activity.
Using your group cards, write your names on the group you are in.
You have two minutes to complete each round.
Each group takes it in turns in picking a place card. Your teacher will instruct you on which group and who is picking the card.
The group with the most points at the end wins. Your teacher will decide how many rounds you are playing.
When a Place card is picked up – Each group must write down as many verbs as possible in the 2 minute time allowed.
After the two minutes is up each group checks with their group members to make sure there is no repeated verbs. No matching words are allowed.
The group with the most verbs wins a point. The group with the most points at the end of all rounds wins.
Teachers Notes
You will need to print the place cards – to save on paper you can print back to back.
To make the game a little more visually appealing you can print the cards with the name ‘place card’ on them on color card/paper.
I recommend printing on card and laminating as this will ensure longer usage of the activity.
There are 4 group cards with lines for students to write their names. There is room for 8 names on each group card. I recommend these are printed on card and laminated. Your students can then use dry erasers to write the names.
I recommend using a two minute timer for this game. I have found this to be the more realistic time frame and gives enough time for the competition feel. You can expand or decrease this time.
I have found that selecting the students your self causes less arguments on whose going first. However, feel free to use a method that works best with your kiddos.
