NEWLY-UPDATED RESOURCE COMING SOON IN 2024! PRIMARY SPANISH AND GREAT FOR YEAR 7 TOO! SPANISH TELLING THE TIME GAMES! A SET OF CARDS MATCHING CLOCK FACES AND TIME PHRASES O'CLOCK AND HALF PAST WITH A SET OF DIFFERENTIATED RECALL WORKSHEETS IN WORKBOOK FORMAT.
My students love to play the games with the cards, and really enjoy working their way through the workbook - that's useful for directed class time, homework, free-choice activities, revision and cover lessons for example. The set is great for independent learning, and my students definitely like to work together, either in pairs of small groups. We play the games and revisit the worksheets regularly over a whole school year - that really is the best way to consolidate language. We also revisit the Notes and Next Steps pro forma regularly too - it's a great way to map progress, encourage students to reflect on their learning, and is a great habit for learners to develop as early as possible.
There are two non-editable files in a zipped format - 56 matching games cards (clock face and time phrase) and a 14-page workbook. The workbook has a full time phrase reference list, Spanish-English, and six differentiated recall challenges.

An instant introduction to 25 fruits and 25 vegetables in German. I like to share essential beginner German vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their German learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
To maximise the learning potential of my German classroom display, I use the set as speaking prompts, such as Was ist das? to Ja / nein or Richtig / falsch questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as plurals or particularly negative sentences, which can be quite tricky in German, and often requires a lot of practice Nein, das ist keine Karotte, das ist eine Kartoffel. and so on. This kind of vocabulary is really useful for an implicit approach to introducing and practising the accusative of articles too, for example Ich habe einen Blumenkohl; Ich habe den Blumenkohl.
The fruits are:
green apples : red apple : bananas : cherries : dates : fig : green grapes : red grapes : kiwi : lemon : mango : nectarine : olives : oranges : papaya : peach : pear : pineapple : pumpkin : raspberry : redcurrants : rhubarb : starfruit : strawberries : watermelon
The vegetables are:
artichoke : asparagus : beetroot : broccoli : cabbage : carrots : cauliflower : celery : corn : cucumber : eggplants / aubergines : French / green beans : garlic : leeks : lettuce : mushrooms : onions : peas : red peppers : yellow pepper : potatoes : sprouts : spinach : sweet potatoes : tomato
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - German flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 50 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

PRIMARY FRENCH TELLING TIME DISPLAY POSTERS These telling the time posters / flashcards are perfect for creating an instant introduction to telling the time in FRENCH. I’ve found that they’re really useful as visual prompts during lessons, as well as keeping the language fresh as students are introduced and practise how to tell the time. They’re ideal at any time during the school year, but especially as a BACK TO SCHOOL classroom decor resource - it’s good for students to have a focus on FRENCH in their learning environment - ideal for Primary French and Year 7 Beginner French too.
The times are o’clock and half past the hour, including midday and midnight. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave, so 56 posters / flashcards in total. Laminate them if you can - they are definitely easier to manipulate if you’re using as flashcards to introduce and/or practise language, and also to display - you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years too.

A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game, ideal for Primary German / KS2 German and KS3 / KS4 German students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in German, and for pronunciation practice too. Students often find half past the hour quite challenging in German, and they find the focused practice really useful.
There are 8 clock faces per page, and I cut the cards in sets of 2, so four larger cards per page. This means that students can see two clock faces and times per game card, which really helps to consolidate learning. It’s also a lot less prep than cutting out eight individual cards, though I do actually have a set like this, which we use as a larger-size dominoes game.
I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
There are two games, each with a different challenge:
= Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Ich habe… Wer hat…?
= Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, Hast du…? Ja, (Nein) ich habe…

They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. Students can quiz / test themselves and each other on a regular basis - they’re a very popular alternative to more traditional vocabulary memorisation or testing activities, and really do help create a lively language learning environment.
This set features 99 Beginner German Words & Phrases in the following vocabulary groups:
Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : das Tierreich, definite and indefinite article : Schulfächer : Obst und Gemüse : Zahlen 41-60 : Fragen und Antworten
German and English game cards, with all the words and phrases to use in a variety of games and activities - I’ve suggested a range of games and activities that have worked well for me. The game card template encourages your students to apply their developing knowledge of German practically and creatively, which is essential for successful language learning.
Reference, Recall & Write Workbook - all the words and phrases are listed German-English in language categories. There are 3 differentiated recall challenges to help students really practise and review the vocabulary:

The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges:
= Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category

My students love to play these dominoes games and find them a lively and interactive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar ‘drilling’ activities. They enjoy being able to work and learn independently, and I give them regular chances during the school year to play. The focus is on 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs in the infinitive form. There are 3 games, each with a differentiated level of challenge.
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English
CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English
SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time!
I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource.
I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their French language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their French vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries .
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.

French verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of common French verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
There are 99 high-frequency French verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the French and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different.
There are three games, each with a different level of challenge:
Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, French to English
Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also French to English
Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to French, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall
There’s a full alphabetical French-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified.
To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record.
There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again.

= Challenge 2: again, students write the verbs in English from a French prompt, but the French verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order.
= Challenge 3: the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding French verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in French too.

PERFECT FOR PRACTISING & REVISING 99 ESSENTIAL FRENCH VERBS - 2 GAMES, 2 CHALLENGES!
NEWLY-REVISED AND UPDATED RESOURCE WITH A THIRD CHALLENGE COMING FOR CHRISTMAS 2018!
Dotty Christmas Dominoes are a lively and festive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar 'drilling' activities. They encourage students to focus on high-frequency verbs and help them identify cognates and faux amis, learning quite independently of the teacher - the activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment.
This resource features a further 99 high-frequency French verbs in the infinitive form, with their English equivalent. If you’ve got a particular focus on vocabulary and grammar, Sets 1 and 2 are also available as a bundle for £5.00 here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/dotty-christmas-dominoes-198-high-frequency-french-verbs-with-2-levels-of-challenge-11173737
There are two levels of challenge in this set:
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE, with the verbs in alphabetical order
CHAMPION CHALLENGE, with the verbs in topsy-turvy order – your students will really have to know their French verbs to create a perfect dominoe sequence!
The verbs are in the infinitive form in French & English, and reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order are included – students can use these as a support resource, and they double as a whole-group pronunciation practice resource too.
I've classed the resource as suitable for Years 9-13, but it really does depend on the age at which your students begin their French learning, as well as the level they are currently at – and aspire to. They are definitely one for the visual and/or kinaesthetic learner.
The dominoes do take a bit of prep - printing & laminating. Laminating is certainly worth the effort and expense, as you will be able to re-use the cards for many Christmastimes to come.
The resource comprises a single pdf file. Please read the Terms of Use carefully – this resource is copyright, and for single-classroom use only.
Merci beaucoup et Joyeux Noël!

The Christmas-theme cards work really well for revision and practice - my students find the snowman cards fun and motivating! There are 198 matching German and English vocabulary cards, which is definitely quite a bit of prep. I always laminate my vocabulary cards, they are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years, so it’s worth the extra prep time and expense.
There a lots of different games students can play entirely independently, and I’ve outlined a selection that work well for us. My students really like to work together, in pairs or in small groups, moving away from more teacher-led activities. The games enable them to practice and consolidate their key beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, and they really do create a lively language learning environment. Students can have either an entire set, depending on the size of their learning group, or particular collections of cards, according to the vocabulary theme. I’ve described the set as not grade-specific, because the content depends on the particular learning stage your students have reached, or are working towards.
The vocabulary in this set focuses on:
die Tiere (indefinite article, all singular)
die Körperteile (definite article, range of singular and plural)
das Wetter
Obst und Gemüse (definite article)
die Schulfächer (definite article)
The set comprises:
198 matching German and English snowman cards, each with a particular word or phrase from the above vocabulary groups
60-question whole-group multi-skill quiz, with a range of questions such as Wie sagt man … auf Englisch? Wie schreibt man … auf Deutsch? The quiz is a non-editable presentation file for copyright reasons, and moves on to the next question with a click. Have a look through it first before you play the quiz with your students, so that you can prepare any additional questions or dialogue you think would work well for them
