ENGLISCH ALS FREMDSPRACHE ENGLISCH ALS ZWEITSPRACHE ESL EFL ENGLISH VERBS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. 500 high-frequency English verbs reference book, alphabetically German-English for German-speaking learners of English - a great learning support resource for intermediate English moving into advanced English students, as a verb vocabulary audit and refresher. It’s also really useful for advanced beginner English students, providing them with a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. We use this as a year-round reference resource, and my students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new English verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource. The verbs are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle : fashion : culture, customs and traditions relationships and family : technology and social media : sport, health and fitness : free time, hobbies and interests : entertainment and leisure : food and drink : local, national & international global areas of interest : transport : holidays, tourism and travel : environment, pollution, recycling and climate : social issues : school, college, current and future study : work experience, skills and personal qualities : employment, ambitions and career plans The reference book has 22 pages - I’ve found the most learner-friendly format is to photocopy double-sided, with two staples down the left-hand side. I also have two additional formats - a 42-page reference book English-German & German-English , and a 22-page reference book, English-German only . DAZ DAF GERMAN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN TELLING TIME O’CLOCK & HALF PAST WORD WALL Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. I like to introduce telling the time as soon as possible in my German learning programmes, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, talking about daily routines for example. The word wall is useful not only during the introductory phase, but also during the practice and consolidation phase, ensuring that key language is always visible and accessible to learners. This is particularly important when working with half past the hour in German, which students of all grades tend to find challenging. It’s important not to move ahead with time phrases too quickly, and I make sure that students are fully confident with a time set before introducing a new one. We talk a lot about the similarities and differences in how we tell time in the different languages too, and I’ve found that very young learners actually develop their confidence in telling time in their first language. I do vary my word wall displays on a regular basis, as they’re great as revision tools too, and this also prevents learning displays becoming ‘invisible’ to students. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, which facilitates a sufficiently large font size that can be seen from various locations in the classroom. There are two headers in the set: Die Uhrzeit and Wie spät ist es? Creating new headers, such as Wie viel Uhr ist es? is a really popular activity too. There are two backgrounds to choose from: German flag, which looks really good for German vocabulary / key language display, or black wave. If you can, laminate the word wall cards, as they hang really well, and last in excellent condition for years, meaning you can recycle the same word wall for a long time. Have a look at this German Numbers 0-21 word wall freebie: it’s the same format as these sets, so you’ll be able to see whether the design would work well in your classroom: GERMAN NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/en-us/teaching-resource/german-numbers-0-21-word-wall-freebie-12448101 Have a browse in my store for more German word wall and learning decor / display, as well as a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. It is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. The license is a single-user license only. English language verb reference resource for German-speaking students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a fourth collection of 25 high-frequency English verbs that students will meet in the beginning to intermediate stages of English learning programmes. They are common English verbs, so they will see, hear and use the verbs regularly in daily life. They include regular and irregular verbs, and are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in German - at that point they can move on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 25 verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary - embedding the verbs into long-term memory will come through frequent usage. There are two alphabetical lists - one English-German, and one German-English, as I’ve found that beginner language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as grammar / vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom. The license is a single-user license only. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of German, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to***link it in their memory with a visual image***, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. Children glue the lists into their German vocabulary books, or file them in their German vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful German vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner German learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to German prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with half past, I then move on to additional time sets. Students often find half past the hour in German quite challenging, so the focused practice is really useful. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I use for German vocabulary display, or plain. Students also find this How to tell time in German half past the hour worksheets freebie helpful: HOW TO TELL TIME IN GERMAN : HALF PAST THE HOUR WORKSHEETS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-telling-time-half-past-worksheets-freebie-12865565 Have a browse in my store for more German visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into intermediate Italian. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their Italian vocabulary. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures students ahve looked at over the term. The questions are entirely in Spanish, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They are really useful for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in Spanish in general, and certainly in Spanish numbers and Spanish Christmas vocabulary in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of Spanish - they are aimed at advanced beginner Spanish learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real Spanish Christmas theme, such as el turrón and las uvas, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. The Spanish Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in Spain, Spanish regions, and other Spanish-speaking countries too, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know. ITALIAN FOR CHILDREN ANIAMLS FLASHCARDS BEGINNER ITALIAN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS The product is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. These Italian animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous Italian look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Italian as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Italian. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Italian from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how*** Italian*** words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Italian to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lupo. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear a bee a bird a butterfly a cat a dog a fish a fox a frog a horse a kangaroo a monkey a mouse an owl a parrot a rabbit a spider a squirrel a turtle / tortoise a wolf Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: Italian flag or animal footprint, so 40 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years.
