Perfect for developing German language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-31 in German - there are 12 differentiated questions, answer key and recording sheet. I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language we started with a couple of months before, and these are ideal for that. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocab, but throughout the year as starters and refreshers. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed. There is a range of Christmas-theme images as visual clues for learners, Knecht Ruprecht and Weihnachtsmann - most of the questions are in German, so it’s really important to give learners appropriate support, and they’re great for stimulating discussion about German Christmas traditions and vocabulary. Please read the Terms of Use. This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for regular use in the run-up to Christmas. It’s great to learn some French Christmas vocabulary, though I don’t expect my learners to learn all the words necessarily - it’s equally important to introduce learners to different traditions and practices through the images, and develop their general French language skills confidently and happily. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. Learners walk around, talking to each other and working together to create the chain. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an alphabetical word chain - this can either be a ‘human’ chain, though I prefer to have learners work together to create an alphabetical line on a table, or even on the floor. There are 32 French Christmas words, arranged alphabetically. The first and last cards have J’ai la première carte and J’ai la dernière carte written on them. If you have fewer than thirty-two learners in your group, randomly select several to have more than one card. Learners love it when you play too! The words are all definite article, masculine and feminine, with singular and plural - this also offers a useful opportunity to talk about grammatical concepts if your learners are at that particular stage. Try to laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and they do last for absolutely years! Learners can also apply their language skills very practically (and artistically!) by creating their own cards on the template. We tend to play against a timer, often in teams (you’ll need a couple of sets for this) - learners really enjoy trying to beat their own record! Please read the Terms of Use carefully. My students have always found these quick conjugation activities really useful as both a practice and revision activity. The focus in on 25 high-frequency irregular and mixed German verbs, with 150 ‘quick’ conjugations in the present tense. I use the workbooks in a range of learning contexts, such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for sub lessons. My students like to have several opportunities to work through the workbook, a couple of times a semester across a whole school year. This helps them to map progress in a very clear and structured way. . The workbook has ten pages with the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge One: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge Two: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge Three: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. We use this a lot to inform our whole-group discussions about conjugation and German grammar in general. answer key which my students find really useful, either to self- or peer-assess - answer keys are also great time-saver for teachers, as well as a way of encouraging students to really assume more responsibility for, and independence in, their learning. These 60 cards are perfect for developing German language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising how to tell time in German - there are 60 cards, divided into two sets of 30 questions, full answer key and a recording sheet. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. Half past the hour is particularly tricky in German, and the focused practice is really useful. The questions in this set are a straightforward introduction to telling the time o’clock and half past the hour, and also to working and learning with task cards - I generally work with numbers quite quickly with my beginner language students, and move on to challenge card activities as soon as I can, so that they can develop independent and collaborative learning skills. There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch? and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and time creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The question cards are numbered 1-60, so students may need to revise those numbers first - you can download number reference lists for free in my store. These 48 task cards focus on conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense. They are perfect for advanced beginner students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, and Intermediate German students who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The questions are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge, with some calling upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with: these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German. To maximise learning, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices: identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. There are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8 is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column.
