**EFL ESL ENGLISH CHRISTMAS ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN CHRISTMAS BEGINNER ENGLISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS, GRID TEMPLATES & CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST ** Files are non-editable in a zipped folder. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ten differentiated word searches, focusing on English Christmas vocabulary, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 48 Christmas words featured, and there’s a full English Christmas vocabulary list in the pack. The words focus on UK-based Christmas vocabulary, such as Boxing Day and Christmas crackers - it’s a great way of stimulating discussion about cultural, religious and national traditions and practices. There are some religious words in the searches, such as Nativity and Three Kings / Three Wise Men. There are also four question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other — this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply their language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it! For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, portrait format - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in English, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-10, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 6 English to English grids, labelled with Big Ben, where learners are prompted with the English words, and look for them in English in the grid. For additional vocab consolidation, Grids 1-4 also feature a German word list that learners have to complete, as extra practice for saying and writing the numbers together — this works really well for embedding language. Grids 5 & 6 require learners to work out what the numbers are in English, and write them out again in English, for additional spelling practice. There are also 4 German to English grids, labelled with a***traditional German House*** , where the prompt words are given in German, and learners have to find the English equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in English, they also complete the English word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors a common direction of reading from left to right in English, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per page, as younger learners of English as a second / subsequent or foreign language are still developing literacy skills in their first language - I’ve found too that older beginner learners benefit from very clear and accessible worksheets, definitely avoiding too much text on a single page. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-100 in English, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and sentence questions, which feature mathematical language in English and more complex linguistic structures. Hyphens are really important in English numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into intermediate Italian. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their Italian vocabulary. MOLTE GRAZIE E BUON APPRENDIMENTO!

It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. French Numbers 0-100 Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner French students to the concept of translation too. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-100, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary, sub lessons and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically too, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other. 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - - they’re far more learner-friendly and last for absolutely years. 2-page answer recording sheet, best printed double-sided. I use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes. My students all have class workbooks, and they use those to work out their answers, and to note them down, saving both prep time and paper. 2-page answer key, again best printed double-sided, and laminated for longevity. One answer key for each small group is sufficient. Answer keys are essential in my view - they encourage students to develop more independence in their learning, and offer students an additional opportunity to engage with language. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 66-page written recall workbook 400 French adjectives, French-English and English-French, with four written recall challenges. My students find the written recall challenges really useful throughout the school year, and particularly as we approach exam time - they generally like to work at their own pace, either in class time or at home. Students can challenge themselves multiple times, simply by covering over previous responses, which means we’re able to get a lot of use from a single book, saving both prep time and paper. The workbook is ideal for advanced French students, and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for those moving into KS5 A Level French. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). There are four written recall challenges in the workbook: Written Recall Challenge One all four hundred adjectives in alphabetical order French-English - students are prompted for the English translation of a French adjective Written Recall ChallengeTwo this challenge also requires students to write the English translation from a French prompt, but the adjectives are in random, rather than alphabetical order - students often learn new vocabulary in alphabetical order, so this can be great practice in recall Written Recall Challenge Three the four hundred adjectives are in alphabetical order English-French - students give the French translation of an English adjective Written Recall Challenge Four with this challenge, the English adjective prompts are in random order, and students give the French translation The challenges work well together, and we do revisit them regularly over quite a long period of time. When students are very focused on particular vocabulary, they’re able to embed the vocabulary really successfully, and feel confident using it in a wide range of contexts. It’s useful to work on creative writing in French regularly too, so that students can apply their French practically, and I encourage them to use a wide range of adjectives, thinking about synonyms too. It’s useful to give the book to advanced beginner French students too, as it provides a language road map with learning goals, outlining the adjectives they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term learning and revision. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 400 adjectives are listed alphabetically French-English and English-French. Each adjective is also shown in the masculine, feminine, singular and plural forms, which my students find really helpful as they begin to engage with gender agreement in French. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a French or English adjective, with teams giving the corresponding French or English adjective - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential French vocabulary. The adjectives are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle : fashion : culture, customs and traditions relationships and family : technology and social media : sport, health and fitness free time, hobbies and interests : entertainment and leisure : food and drink France and French-speaking countries : local, national & international global areas of interest : transport : holidays, tourism and travel : environment, pollution, recycling and climate : social issues : school, college, current and future study : work experience, skills and personal qualities : employment, ambitions and career plans Have a browse in my store for more French vocabulary reference books, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in conjugating French ER verbs in the present tense in particular. To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices - identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. These 48 task cards focus on conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense. They are perfect for advanced beginner students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, and Intermediate German students who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The questions are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge, with some calling upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with: these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German. To maximise learning, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices: identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. The set comprises the following non-editable files: 48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper answer key 4 question cards template creating new language enables learners to apply language practically, and gives them opportunity to think about how language works recording sheet Have a browse in my store for more German task cards, and more German resources including German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
