This unit is about the fight against lung cancer: origins of the problem (tobacco fashion in 1940-50s), rise of lung cancer in 1970s, the diagnosis of the disease, use of science and technology in treatment, and finally the government action to prevent the spread of the disease.

This unit is presenting the story of penicillin after the discovery by Alexander Fleming: the struggle of Howard Florey and Ernst Chain to mass produce the drug, the help of the US government is setting up the production during the WW2, uses of penicillin, and its role in development of other drugs, and finally the issue of antibiotic resistance.

This unit is about the new ways of preventing diseases in 20th Century: the Clean Air Act (1956 and 1968), limiting car emissions, smoking in public places, as well as government healthy lifestyle campaigns: Change4Life and more. The main aim of this presentation is to enhance learning by adding the visual stimuli (pictures, diagrams, photographs) as well as video links, so all ability pupils will be able to access it. This unit presents the factors that made development of the genetics possible: advancement in technology (electron microscope) and science community cooperation (The Human Genome Project).
