Escape from Addingham Hall This is a fantastic new Escape Room. Aimed at Years 6 and 7, but could also be used with other year groups. Ideal for use at any time in your teaching, or as an end of term activity. This would also be a useful activity in a Maths Day or Year 6 transition day. Each of the Six Rooms in Addingham Hall contains a maths problem/puzzle. The skills required to solve the problems are: Room 1: Finding and adding Prime Numbers under 100. Room 2: Adding 100 numbers under 100 (looking for patterns). Room 3: Addition. Room 4: Completing Magic Square. Room 5: Solving a number problem. Room 6: Calculating the Mean Average. You are provided with the following three files: A Powerpoint Show which pupils use throughout the activity. A Teacher Powerpoint to introduce the activity, and go through all the answers at the end. A PDF containing instructions, fill in sheets for pupils (should you choose to use these), and full answers. This is a full lesson which your students will enjoy.

Christmas Maths Escape Room: Escape from Exmas Manor KS4 Please note : REVISED on 17th December 2020 Your students will love this Escape Room activity in which they solve a series of maths problems. The activity is designed for KS4 students. There are 6 problems, each in a different “room” of “Exmas Manor”. Students must solve each one before they move on to the next. Access to the next problem is by inputting the “Escape Code” in the Powerpoint Show which leads them through the activity. The skills required to solve the problems are: Room 1: Volumes of Spheres. Room 2: Solving pictorial simultaneous equations. Room 3: Inverse percentage calculations. Room 4: Finding mean from frequency ‘table’. Room 5: Substitution into quadratic formula. Room 6: Volume of an octahedron(by splitting into pyramids). You are provided with the Powerpoint Slideshow for students, a teachers powerpoint with answers, and a PDF which pupils can use to record their answers. This also includes answers for teachers, plus the net for room 6.

10 Fantastic Powerpoint Mental Starters to promote Cross Curricular Numeracy. This set looks at Numeracy in PE. Each of the 10 powerpoints has 20 questions, with the answer following each question, so these can be used not only as starter activities, but at any point in the lesson. They could be used in a mathematics lesson to develop numeracy skills using topics in PE as a backdrop, or alternatively in a PE theory lesson so focus on the numerical elements of some PE topics. The 10 powerpoints are: 2012 Olympic Medal Bar Chart This looks at a “triple bar chart” showing the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by 6 countries in the 2012 Olympic games. There are 20 questions related to this bar chart. Average Speed This uses given distances and times for races to calculate the average speed, in metres per second. Body Mass Index This gives the BMI formula and students are required, with the aid of a calculator, to calculate BMI values from given data, and determine which weight category this relates to. Cardiac Output With the aid of a calculator, students are asked to find the missing values in the Cardiac Output equation given. Heart Rate Graphs 20 questions for students to answer using the heart rate against time graphs given. Marathon Fractions and Percentages From the figures for each marathon race, students are asked to give the fractions and percentages asked in the questions. Snooker Angles The animated path of a ball on a snooker table is shown, and students are then asked to calculate angles in straight lines from the given angles. Sports Equipment Purchases In each question, a different sports item, together with the cost per item is given, and students are asked to calculate the total cost for purchasing the given number of items. Sports Pictograms 10 questions each for two different pictograms are given - 20 questions in total. Swimming Data A table of swimming data is given, and questions are asked using the data in this table.

40 Exciting and Colourful Powerpoint Mental Starters to Develop Numeracy Skills. 10 powerpoints each for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Each presentation contains 20 questions (A screenshot of each powerpoint presentation is show below), with the answer appearing after each question, so pupils can be encouraged to give answers in a range of ways, such as whiteboards. These are suitable for pupils of varying ages and abilities, and more time can be given to younger or less able pupils to answer each question. This is a zipped file, but I’ve also uploaded four of the powerpoints separately so that the preview shows some content. The cover image also give an idea of the screens in the powerpoints. Please note that the font used in the actual powerpoints is calibri (which isn’t showing correctly in the preview images).
