Pentominoes

This unit is made up of a number of mini activities. After finding the 12 pentominoes pupils use the shapes in the following activities: •Find the symmetry and rotational symmetry of the shapes •Investigate which pentominoes will tessellate without being rotated, then which will tessellate when rotated •Fit the shapes into varying sizes of rectangles The unit contains pentomino shapes to download and print out.

3-D shape investigation.Shape properties. KS3.

This unit is made up of three mini interactive activities focusing on the properties of 3D shapes. The first activity is based on Euler’s theory. The pupils need to find a rule that links the faces, edges and vertices together. The interactive activity allows them to manipulate the shapes on screen to count the faces, edges and vertices. The second activity has them using their knowledge of the properties of 3D shapes to form a polyhedral chain. The third activity allows the pupils to investigate which edges will meet when a net folds to form a 3D shape.

Ordinal numbers

(6)
This KS1 Maths lesson helps pupils to understand the concept of ordinal numbers. A series of activities reinforces the idea of first, second, third and so on. In the main activity, pupils have the choice of two races and place the competitors in a suitable order. Further activities teach higher ordinal numbers (from 11th to 20th). The lesson fulfils these National Curriculum requirements (KS1, Ma2, Number): * approach problems involving number, and data presented in a variety of forms * count reliably up to 20 objects at first

Interactive activities- pupils will learn to: * solve whole number problems using money * use mental strategies to solve 'real life' money problems * recognise coins of different values * work out how to pay an exact sum using different coins * work out change to be given
Maths support programme

Maths support programme

(5)
A Maths support programme based on yearly tests which focus on key objectives. There is a test for pupils in each of the years 2 to 6 and each test has been designed around the key objectives in the previous year’s programme of study. The intention is that the pupils’ performance on the test would serve as a diagnostic tool for identifying areas of the previous year’s work which require further development for certain pupils.

This transition project allows pupils to handle data in a real life context. The work is split from Years 5 to 8, with opportunity for groups to revisit the previous year’s results. Year 5 collects discrete data, finds the mode and range and displays the results on an interactive bar graph. Year 6 collects discrete data, finds the mode, median, mean and range and displays their results on an interactive pictogram. Year 7 collects discrete data and displays their data on an interactive scatter diagram. Year 8 collects and analyses continuous data using an interactive reaction timer.
