These comprehensive Statistics notes and examples cover topics from the Math Common Core for High Schools. There is a student booklet with detailed notes and spaces for them to fill in the solutions to the examples. A separate teacher booklet contains full worked solutions for all examples. The student booklet is provided as a Word document as well as a pdf so that you can edit it to suit the needs of your class.
The areas covered are:
mathematical modelling;
representing data (frequency distributions, stem and leaf diagrams, histograms, measures of location, coding, quartiles and percentiles);
measures of dispersion (box plots, skewness, percentiles, variance, standard deviation, frequency tables)
probability (Venn diagrams, tree diagrams, conditional probability, independent and mutually exclusive events, number of arrangements)
correlation and regression
discrete random variables
normal distribution
This booklet provides a comprehensive treatment of mathematical modelling. It begins with thorough explanation and practice of basic algebraic techniques, such as solving equations, factorizing and changing the subject of a formula. It then covers linear, quadratic, exponential and trigonometric models. Numerous real-life examples are used to illustrate the techniques with an emphasis on the interpretation of mathematical results. Also covered are the concepts of reduction to linear form using logarithms and inverse functions. There are extensive exercises provided to enable students to practise the techniques learned. 16 Homework tasks are included at the end of the booklet. You will receive the original Word document as well as the pdf so you can edit it as you wish.
These notes and examples provide an introduction to complex numbers and cover the content of the common core standard N-CN for High Schools. There is a printable booklet that can be issued to students, with spaces for them to fill in the solutions to the examples. Full solutions to the examples are provided for the teacher in a separate document. The notes are also suitable for self-study. You will receive the original Word document as well as the pdf so you can edit it as you wish.
These notes and examples (with answers) cover the entire statistics content for the first year of the new linear maths A Level. There are 7 booklets, split by topic.

This matching activity enables students to practise factorising expressions in order to simplify algebraic fractions. The types of factorising covered are: taking out a common factor,quadratics where the coefficient of x^2 is 1 and the difference of squares. Students cut up the cards and stick them onto the answer grid in pairs of equivalent fractions. Students are encouraged to justify their answers by giving an explanation for why they have matched each pair.
Students cut out the cards and stick them on a sheet of paper to make seven sets. Each set should contain:
· A quadratic function in trinomial form
· A quadratic function in factorised form
· A quadratic function in completed square form
· The coordinates of the maximum or minimum point on the curve
· The x-intercepts of the curve
· The y-intercept of the curve
· A diagram of the curve
Students can work on the activity in pairs to encourage collaboration and communication skills.
This pack contains two fun activities that can be used to help students practise simplifying expressions involving surds. In the first activity, students must identify the ‘Odd One Out’ in each group of expressions involving surds. Then they must come up with their own expression that is equivalent to the others in the group. Students should be encouraged to explain their answers. In the second activity, students must connect the dominoes to make a chain of pairs of equivalent expressions.
This workbook can be used to teach the bivariate data content of the common core for math. There are worked examples and exercises covering the following aspects:
Plotting bivariate data (scatter plots)
Interpreting the correlation (association) between two variables
Drawing, using and interpreting a line of best fit
Outliers
Determining association for categorical data from a two-way table
This Powerpoint presentation and worksheet can be used to teach solving linear equations. The 11-slide presentation contains numerous worked examples that can be used to deliver a lesson or sequence of lessons. The 4-page worksheet (with answers) is differentiated in difficulty and can be used to consolidate the concepts covered in the lesson. The following are covered:
1-step equations
2-step equations
equations involving brackets
equations involving collecting like terms
