A detailed presentation about context, 1930s America, racism, Great Depression, Dustbowl, Migrant workers, the American Dream. A speaking and listening activity is also included.

A lesson designed to encourage pupils to write a persuasive speech. Pupils watch a small clip of the TV programme 'The Voice', before trying to persuade one of the judges to pick them as a member of their team. Pupils investigate persuasive techniques using a power-point slide and card-sort. 1-9 grading criteria is given and a peer assessment sheet provided.
