A full lesson outlining how to investigate the denotation and connotation of imagery and structure. The lesson involves a group starter task identifying the connotations of colours. They then complete a series of individual comprehension questions which aim to promote pupils' confidence and ability identifying the connotation or the writer's choice of words, before a peer assessment task.Pupils have GCSE 1-9 criteria to assess their work. There is also a homework task (or extension task) to encourage further development. A punchy, well paced lesson which gets pupils doing the work not you!

A lesson (via presentation) and scaffolded worksheet ( to support lower ability) which sets up a writing task where pupils introduce themselves and discuss their likes and dislike, hobbies and aspirations. I have used this as both a back up cover lesson and also an introductory lesson to my new classes.

Pupils investigate the techniques used in a series of openings to a piece of creative writing, using the worksheet provided. They then analyse this in pairs, before completing the first paragraph of an exam style question. Peer assessment using the attached mark scheme (also on ppt) can be done as a plenary.

A full lesson and marking criteria (suitable for students) with 1-9 scale. Lesson aimed at 3-7 range, but could very easily be adapted. The lesson introduces the features of a newspaper article and contains paired and group activities encouraging pupils to investigate structural and linguistic features of articles. Each activity contains a PPT presentation for students, with all the required information provided for the activity. Ideally suited to KS3 or 4. Contains a range or individual, pair and group tasks encouraging independent learning. 1 lessons focuses on creating writing reader's find engaging. 3 activities focus on identifying and varying the use of sentence structures and functions. 3 lessons focus on punctuation and word classes.

A full lesson to encourage pupils to investigate how staging effects the audiences perception of events. Contains a starter to be completed after reading Act 1, Scene 1. Pupils then complete a Jigsaw activity in groups or individually to investigate 4 areas of staging. Followed by independent directed writing. Uses 1-9 criteria. Lesson viewed by SLT and deemed 'Outstanding'.

A bundle of 7 literacy activities. All have a PPT which contains a literacy game or links to an interactive activity. I use this as a weekly literacy activity for my form. However, this could be used for KS2/3 as general literacy starters. All activities focus on spelling and vocabulary. other bundles focus on reading skills, punctuation and writing techniques.

Creative Writing. KS3 & KS4. Fits the Edexcel English Language Framework (can be used with all other exam board frameworks for creative writing). Preparation for both Paper 1 and 2. Objective 1 (AO2): To be able to identify a simple, compound and complex sentence and discuss their effect. A full lesson detailing how to analyse persuasive writing. Ideal for English Language paper 1 Suitable for HA KS3 classes and KS4. An Ofsted Outstanding lesson (put into practise recently), with a lesson plan showing detailed differentiation.
