This is a bundle of 11 Functional Skills Maths Number lessons.
All lessons are mapped to the Adult Numeracy Core Curriculum. They cover Entry 1-Entry 3, with some Level 1 skills. I had few L1 students when I planned these, and taught the parts of the L1 curriculum not covered by these lessons as extension tasks with individual students.
You can get individual worksheets and powerpoints on my page for free.
Alternatively, you can buy individual lessons (with worksheets and powerpoints) for only £1.50 each.
This lesson focuses on multiplying by 10 and, for higher-level students, multiplying and dividing decimals by 10/100/1000 (using money). E1 and E2 students can use calculators; E3 and L1 are encouraged to use paper methods. You will need a selection of takeaway menus or similar. There are no answers included as they will depend on the choices made by individual students.

This lesson introduces/consolidates the concepts of estimating and rounding in the context of shopping. E1 students are asked to first compare numbers, before using a number line to work out whether they should round up or down. You will need shopping cards or a catalogue for this lesson - anything that lets students choose items and round prices. Answers are at the end of the worksheet, although the answers to some activities will depend on which items students choose.

This lesson introduces E2 and E3 students to the concept of rounding, using money and time. E1 students have a worksheet that consolidates coin recognition and counting. There is an activity that uses Google Maps to plan a journey, so have laptops or PCs available. Answers are at the end of the worksheet, although answers for the Google Maps activity can’t be included as each student’s answer will be different.

This lesson works with different kinds of fractions and challenges students to work with the concept of how much of a fraction or amount is remaining. Students work with fractions of items and money, with tasks related to working in a shop and shopping. There is an extension worksheet about equivalent fractions for E3 and above. Answers are at the end of the worksheet.
The E3 worksheet also references percentage work, but I have not included this as it is not a worksheet I wrote. There are plenty out there, however.

This lesson introduces/consolidates the concept of double and half. It starts with a game of Double Your Money - students start with £10, and bet any or all of that amount on getting the Maths question right. If they are correct, they win the amount of money they bet; if they are incorrect, they lose that money. There is a link in the powerpoint to a website that generates suitable questions.
The worksheets allow students to use their understanding of double and half in the context of working in a shop and shopping. The answer sheets are at the back.

This lesson links multiplication to area and volume, using the ‘squared paper’ method of multiplication. It also introduces the ‘squared paper’ method of division (given a sum such as 12/4, on squared paper students outline the number they have to divide, and count out blocks of the number they are dividing by; the number of blocks is the answer). They then apply these skills to the real-life problem of decorating a room.

This lesson covers different multiplication methods: repeated addition, using a multiplication square, and ‘squared paper’ method (given a sum such as 3x4, on squared paper students count 3 squares across, 4 squares down, and then draw round the resulting rectangle; the number of squares they outline is the answer). It then links this method to area and volume. There is a slide at the end that covers long multiplication (two methods) for E3/L1 students.

A Maths quiz useful for the end of term, or just when you want to do something fun.
Each category has 2 levels: an easy-ish first level and a more challenging second one, so you can adapt to different ages and abilities. There are several categories, with 5 questions in each. The category slide has hyperlinks to the first question of each category. The questions test knowledge and Maths skills.
There is one Rotherham specific question (where I teach) and some 2019 specific ones. The answers for the latter will need to be adjusted for different years.
