This is a seven page workbook to help learners understand inference. The workbook includes four short pieces of fiction with questions on what is inferred in each text. The learners are then asked to describe a character to a reader and guided through the process of using inference in their writing. The booklet also includes a peer assessment sheet to allow the learners to evaluate the success of the inference. This resource has simplified inference making it ideal for learners who struggle to find inference in more complex texts. Suitable for GCSE English Language and Functional Skills learners. This booklet takes about an hour to complete and a highlighter should be used to complete the reading section.

This is a Power Point presentation and worksheet perfect for GCSE English Language and Functional Skills Level 1- 2. The learners are asked to act as journalists, watching a report about the Hatton Garden Gang and taking notes to locate the vital information. The learners then get into groups of three or four and answer questions on the report. The worksheet allows the students to answer the questions on paper. The answers are provided on the Power Point. The Power Point then asks the learners to partake in a board blast to list what they would include in a newspaper article and some answers are provided. Finally, the learners can use some time to research the gang before creating a newspaper article on the Hatton Garden Gang appealing to the public for information on the missing suspect. This lesson last around an hour and a half and can be split into two equal lessons of the listening comprehension and the writing task.
