Year 5 SATs Arithmetic and Reasoning Practice Test Paper (Year 5 Content)

A great revision resource for Year 5 pupils (useful for Year 6 too though) There are two test papers included within this pack 1) An arithmetic paper presented in the same style as the Year 6 SATs paper. This contains 36 questions covering a range of topics which are based on the Year 5 National Curriculum objectives only. 2) An arithmetic paper but with the questions presented in word problems. The numbers are the same as in test paper 1 but the questions are presented in a word problem format to help encourage and develop reasoning skills. The answers to the 36 questions are provided at the end of the paper. This could be given to pupils in timed conditions or alternatively children could work in pairs or small groups to help aid revision. The questions included on this paper are based from the Year 5 National Curriculum objectives only so do not follow the pattern of the SATs paper where the questions start off easy and get progressively harder.

You may want, for example, to have different groups of children working on different investigations. Statements to be investigated include: Digits in the 9x table add to 9. Add any four even numbers. Now divide the total by 4. There is no remainder. On each A4 sheet there are two maths statements and the pack also includes an A4 instruction page with possible extension activities.

Writing Pack

(0)
This is a simple concept which is designed to provide opportunities for children to write. In this pack are 6 weeks of writing prompts with 5 prompts included each week - one for each day. The writing prompts are only supposed to take children 5-10 minutes to complete and they should only aim to write 3 or 4 sentences. However the sentences they write should be of high quality and the children should aim to include a range of connectives, sentence starters, vocabulary and punctuation. At the end of the session it is recommended that the teacher provides an opportunity for the children to share what they have written. Examples of prompts included are: I was very disappointed when… If you looked under my bed, you would find… If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to… If I was the teacher, I would… These writing prompts are provided in both PDF and PowerPoint format so they can be displayed on a whiteboard or printed out. Each page is decorated with a playful Clipart image thanks to our license with Clipart.com These writing activities are aimed at children in years 3 - 6
