This Flashcards Bundle evidences ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted Macbeth as a Tragic Hero (set 1), used the supernatural to develop characters (set 2) and intorduce the theme of guilt and anxiety in the play. A tragedy play in Shakespeare’s time begins with qualities in a hero that are admired. The hero is loved and there is an element of celebrity and role model. Then a weakness is highlighted and manipulated to bring down the hero with tragic consequences. It is interesting in Macbeth that Macbeth as a military general had no difficulty in applying violent acts to kill his enemy but could not handle emotionally or mentally the murder of King Duncan. Holiday to Newquay Focuses on visiting the UK town of Newquay and requires learners to demonstrate various English skills and subtly embeds many of the Functional skills required for assessment and is broken down into the following tasks: Task 1 - Learners will read a promotional text taken from an online site and then rewrite paragraphs in their own words. Task 2 - Using 3 words, learners will describe 8 pictures that will be used in the next task. Task 3 - Learners will write a postcard to a family or friend telling them about their holiday in Newquay including words from the last task. Task 4 - Either using a PC or hand-drawn learners will create a Bus Stop poster to promote visiting the town of Newquay. VAR Pros and Cons This Smartbook investigates VAR Video Assistant Refereeing and requires learners to gain an understanding of this new technology and then give their own opinion of whether it is a positive or negative addition to the game. Tasks include learners spotting deliberate grammatical and spelling mistakes within a text and initiating and participating in a forum based activity where they can communicate their points of view. This could then be displayed in the classroom. Tutor Notes are included to help assessment. It then tasks them with breaking that job role down and asks them to create an advert for their chosen vocation. The task then requires them to present their schemes with the rest of the group and even display in their ideas in the classroom. SHOULD ANIMALS LIVE IN THE ZOO focuses on the controversial issue of Animals in Captivity and requires learners to demonstrate their capabilities of understanding the opinions of others as well as being able to put their own opinion across. They will explore the pros and cons of the subject using online research and also have the opportunity to debate their findings with each other. The task then requires them to present their final investigations in a newspaper article which they can design and present to the rest of the group and even display in the classroom.
