A great PowerPoint on writing a descriptive/narrative piece that is filled with tension. The lesson focuses on sensory language, the ‘ticking clock,’ and heightening the stakes. We looked at two examples based on the chase scene from Terminator 2: Judgement Day and No Time to Die. Links to clip included. The students then write a piece of writing based on one of the / both the clips.

A PowerPoint and worksheet on writing characters for creative writing. Daisy May-Cooper (comedian, This Country) has outlined 11 questions to help you create vivid and interesting characters e.g. Q4) What posters / pictures would this character have on their bedroom wall? Q5) How successful is this character romantically? Are Q9) If person was caught telling a lie, how would they react? She also uses characters from today’s culture to give great examples. My students really enjoyed this and it helped them create their short stories.

Fun activity my students enjoyed. Students have to find the word classes and fig language (and explain the effects) in the song, Maneater. I have attached the classic version as well as the version in the recent film, No Hard Feelings with Jennifer Lawrence.

A starter my students love. A 40-slide PowerPoint full of fun questions and discussions points for students. Some are personal and some are general knowledge. Examples below: ‘What’s your most overused word?’ ‘What is the only word that begins and ends with the letters “und”?’ ‘Which three words best describe you?’ ‘What is the shortest two-word sentence in the English language?’
