This comprehension is based on Qatar as a country and the processes they’ve put in place in order to host the World Cup 2022. It provides children with an interesting background knowledge of the country while testing their comprehension skills simultaneously. I have attached comprehension questions/activities for a lower ability, middle ability and higher ability learner, all in the same document. It worked well for the abilities in my own class, however it can be adapted to suit the needs of your class too. I have saved it as a word document and a PDF.

Playscripts Year 5

Playscripts Year 5

A wonderful week of planning, resources and presentations to engage children in writing playscripts. As our topic was on Ancient Greece, the playscript that children will be writing will be based around Ancient Greek Gods. I found that this motivated the children more as they already had previous information on the topic. Children are introduced to playscipts by picking out the features in pairs and also gathering an understanding of what a 'myth' is. As the week progresses, children will then create a hero/heroine for their own playscipt by filling out a job application for that particular character. There is a planning/drafting day included also, with resources, to ensure children fully understand the layout of a playscript, along with using features of a Greek Myth. By the end of the week, children will produce an interesting Greek Myth play using the features correctly and effectively. This resource includes notebook presentation, differentiated resources, very detailed planning which points out explicitly what needs to be taught and how the lessons are to be differentiated, and also a success criteria for children to follow. I have tried these lessons myself, and my children really enjoyed them. Tanka Poems- Year 4 Poetry Planning

(0)
This is a 4 day plan focused on Tanka Poetry. Tanka poems are 5 lines long and contain 31 syllables. They are normally about nature, love, sadness or other strong emotions. As my children have studied the Vikings this year, I have based this planning for children to imagine that they are a Viking leaving their lovely homeland and family. Children spend the week researching about the Vikings leaving their homes and also using similes, metaphors and adjectives to describe their feelings. My children really enjoyed these lessons and were surprisingly good at writing Tanka poems. Powerpoint, lesson plan and activities included.
Phonics Screening Revision Game

Phonics Screening Revision Game

This game involves asking the children to roll a dice and read the sound that their counter lands on. When they read the sound, they must think of a word that this sound is in. I played it in mixed ability pairs, the low ability children just had to try and read the sound. It was a lot of fun and they loved it. It contains diagraphs, triagraphs, split diiagraphs and single sound letters for a thorough revision.

Kennings- Year 4 Poetry Planning

(0)
A weeks worth of planning and resources for kennings. This weeks plan involves immersing children into poetry by getting them to identify the features of a kenning and to create their own by the end of the week. To make it more interesting, I have included a research day for children to collect facts for their kenning about one of Africa's top 5 animals. (lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino). At the end of the week when they are writing their kenning, they will write it on a background of their chosen animal. I have included powerpoint presentations also. These lessons also touch on alliteration. The kennings produced at the end of the week are beautiful and colourful also, they make a great display! KS2 Year 6 SATS Reading comprehension: SAMPLE

I wrote a short piece about a Middle Eastern boy joining a British School and decided to make it into a Year 6 SATS sample paper. The questions are structured exactly like the SATS exams and children can use them as revision in the weeks/months coming up to the SATS exams. I have uploaded it as a PDF and also a word document. Also, I’ve separated the reading material and the questions in two different documents if required. Can be used with year 5s also to get them into the SATS style of questioning. Let me know your thoughts on this resource.

Book Week Planning: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

(0)
As last week was Book Week, I planned a week’s worth of lessons based around the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Each day, we read a chapter of the story and then engage in lessons based on what we’ve read. As you can see from the cover image, this involves lots of chocolate!! The children absolutely adored these lessons and were so engaged in the process of melting chocolate. They needed to see which chocolate would be the best to build the Indian Prince’s palace out of by melting different types of chocolate. HINT: flakes don’t melt! Honestly, a really fun week and trust me, you’ll enjoy it too. Please check out my Instagram for more of my activities for Book Week: Rebecca.the.irish.teacher

An editable book cover hunt. Children will follow the clues on the reverse side of each book cover and hunt around the school for some hidden treasure. They must write down the names of the book covers that they come across too and aim to read at least one of them that week. Just something a bit different during Book Week to engage them with different books. For more information of activities that we did during Book Week, check out my Instagram: Rebecca.the.irish.teacher.

Year 4 SPAG test- End of Term

(0)
This resource was put together as a test for my year 4 class at the end of the year to check their knowledge of SPAG. I have attached the SPAG curriculum to ensure that I have included lots of different areas of this subject. Children are tested on: * their knowledge of punctuation (commas, question marks, speech marks and apostrophes plural and possessive). * their knowledge of SPAG terminology (main/subordinate clause, frontal adverbial, determiner, adverb, suffix, preposition, contractions). This test gave me a great insight into the progress they’ve made, but also which areas that they are still not so sure on. Please leave a review and check out some of my other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9
Pronouns
TheIrishTeacherTheIrishTeacher

Pronouns

(0)
This resource is made with a Harry Potter theme. Children are introduced to the term pronouns through a short Harry Potter clip where they can hear how badly pronouns are needed in spoken language as well as written. I have made differentiated work resources for the children to use for low ability, middle ability and high abililty- all still based on the Harry Potter Theme. Children are encouraged to work in groups throughout this lesson to try and practice using pronouns on whiteboards, before their activity. Using a Harry Potter theme worked well in my class as it fun, colourful and different from their normal SPAG lessons, which can sometimes be boring. I have included a powerpoint, worsheets and a detailed plan with this package.
