Phonics Screening Revision Game

Phonics Screening Revision Game

This resource is a fun way to encourage children to practice their phonics or the upcoming phonics screening. They will need to be cut out, with the elephant stuck to the back of the word and then laminated. Once they're done once, you'll have them forever. It consists of a selection of a selection of real and pseudo words, with a colourful background to keep them interested. You will need to print two copies of this resource in order to play the game. I played it in groups of 4: *Give each child in the group an even amount of cards. *Instruct them to leave them all in front of them (elephant facing up). *The first child must place their first card down, sound it out/read it. *The next child repeats etc until there is two of the same words placed one after the other. *They all must race to say SNAP if two cards sitting on top of each other are the same word. *The person to say it first, gets all of the cards in the pile and they begin again. This resource can be used as an extension activity for early finishers, or as a revision tool at the end of the year, or in preparation for the phonics screening test. A colourful, helpful resource which helps chlildren write the ee sound correctly. I have used lines and dots to indicate a one letter one sound and a digraph. Children will end the activity by attempting to write their own sentence using the ee sound. Lines are provided for children to write on. I put alot of time and effort into my lessons. Timestables Chart

A colourful, creative way to keep track of children's knowledge of the timestables. I printed this chart on A3, filled in the children's names and ticked off the timestables as they knew them. We found it was a nice visual way to keep a note of who knew which timestables and it also became a little competitive in who knew the most. Please leave a review if you liked this resource and check out some of my other resources also: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

Short Multiplication- Year 4

***DIFFERENTIATED MULTIPLICATION FOR 4 GROUPS*** When teaching multiplication this week, I struggled to find a resource in which I needed. In Mathematics, I like a resource to be differentiated, while allowing the children to move up to a higher set themselves, if they find the work too easy. This resource allows children to make great progress in one lesson as they can be challenged constantly, rather than completing page after page of the same type of calculation. My class have not yet moved onto 2 digit multiplication, so it is differentiated by: Bronze: TO x O (focusing mainly on the 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables) Silver: HTO x O (using a range including the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables) Gold: THHTO x O (using a range including the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables) Upon finishing the gold section, there is an additional section called platinum. This section allows a further challenge for children in completing missing calculation multiplication questions (answers included). I have provided the success criteria at the top of the page, as I like to remind children constantly what they need to remember to do. Also, for some children who don't know their times tables, I've included a multiplication square for support. These files have been saved as a PDF and a word document.
Mamma Mia: Comprehension

Mamma Mia: Comprehension

Can’t get this song out of your head? Well neither can we! Dig deeply into the lyrics for comprehension and close reading practice with these high-interest, current songs to allow children to use their deduction and inference skills. This comprehension is based on the song ‘Mamma Mia’ from the Mamma Mia movie and Abba of course because: We all love the song Mamma Mia. It’s something a little bit different to analyse a song. The children discussed the lyrics in detail, trying to decide what they meant. It allowed them to appreciate the lyrics in songs and not just to sing them. There is a mix of questions involved in these comprehensions, asking children to: *locate information from the text *rate the effectiveness of certain words and EXPLAIN the reason for the answer *form an opinion on the lyrics. Do they like/dislike the lyrics? Why? Overall, children will gain an understanding of the meaning behind the lyrics and they will be encouraged to form opinions on a song, which is something a little bit different. I hope you enjoy this resource as much as we did! Products like this: The Greatest Showman Comprehension
A sample cover letter

A sample cover letter

There was a lot of interest on my Instagram (rebecca.the.irish.teacher) of a sample cover letter for teaching abroad, so I decided to make one. A cover letter is the school’s first impression of you as a person, professional and potential employee. Even though you may be applying for lots of jobs, ensure you make your Cover letter stands out from the crowd. Read their mission and vision, read their objectives as a school and mention these things in your cover letter and how you are going prosper and flourish in their school. For this sample cover letter, I have clicked on to a job offer on TESjobs and read their ethos, mission and vision statements. I quote from them and make my cover letter look very individual to their school in hope to make it ‘stand out’. There is no set length required for a cover letter but you need to refer to their ethos and mission statements if you want to make them believe you would like a job at their school. This product includes: A detailed cover letter that’s specific to a school’s ethos, while providing information of you as a teacher.

Coordinates Activities: Differentiated

As I’ve said before, I teach in a ‘football CRAZY’ class, who will engage with almost anything if it’s related to football. With that in mind, I have created this activity to use when teaching your children about coordinates. INCLUDED: *1 higher ability activity. Children will need to identify the coordinates in which Ronaldo passes the ball. The coordinates range between positive and negative numbers for that extra challenge. *I lower ability activity: Children will need to identify the coordinates in which Ronaldo passes the ball. The coordinates are within positive numbers. *Answer sheets for both activities. This is NOT a complete lesson package, it is simply the activity in which you can use alongside your own lesson to check children’s understanding of the topic. Please leave a review to let me know how you and your class got on with this resource. :)

Bonfire Night: Powerpoint and Activity

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. This resource includes: *A colourful, interactive powerpoint. *Differentiated acitivities Please leave a review on your thoughts. Thanks

Art Activities KS2: Art Day

(0)
This package includes a lesson plan and a wealth of images and templates to carry out 4 different art activities. We spent the full day focusing on art from different artists such as Picasso Monet Romero Britto and many more. The learning objective is: How do I create different tones of one colour using different media, exploring shape and pattern? Success Criteria: I can discuss the work of artists. I can mix paint to create different shades of blue. I can keep the colours clean by using a clean brush to mix. I can make an observational drawing I can combine pastel colours to create an illusion of colours mixing. I can create a repeating pattern using tone to add depth. Children will create 4 different art pieces using many different techniques all based around our theme of the colour blue.

Features of a Persuasive Text: Plan

(1)
OBSERVATION LESSON: Today was my observation and it was day 1 for us, engaging with Persuasive Writing. The children had to identify the features of a persuasive text using the AFOREST technique. (We used this support mat and it was EXCELLENT! This resource includes: a very detailed, differentiated lesson plan, which allows you to follow it step-by-step (just like I did). Links to the texts I used. Key for annotating. Advertisements for Lower Ability pupils. To start: children will try to persuade their teacher to allow them to go for break 5 minutes early. To you (and the observer, this will show their prior knowledge of persuasion, which should be little at this stage). Main: Using a key, children will highlight and annotate a piece of persuasive writing using a key to spot the different features. There are 3 different persuasive texts for high, middle and low ability children so that they can all access the content. Plenary: Children will be placed into mixed ability groups of 4/6 and asked to SELL you a random object from the class (e.g. a pencil case) in a dragon’s den type fashion. This will show the observer (and you) the progress made since the start of the lesson as the children apply the techniques that they have learned. Please let me know your thoughts on this lesson plan.

It made a fantastic display also. Children will make: Dinosaur Silhouettes Dino Fossil Purple Plate-a-sauruses Recycled Rockets
Pronouns
TheIrishTeacherTheIrishTeacher

Pronouns

(0)
This resource is made with a Harry Potter theme. Children are introduced to the term pronouns through a short Harry Potter clip where they can hear how badly pronouns are needed in spoken language as well as written. I have made differentiated work resources for the children to use for low ability, middle ability and high abililty- all still based on the Harry Potter Theme. Children are encouraged to work in groups throughout this lesson to try and practice using pronouns on whiteboards, before their activity. Using a Harry Potter theme worked well in my class as it fun, colourful and different from their normal SPAG lessons, which can sometimes be boring. I have included a powerpoint, worsheets and a detailed plan with this package.
Editable Classroom Jobs
TheIrishTeacherTheIrishTeacher

Editable Classroom Jobs

(0)
A fun filled ‘back to school’ activity centered around children applying for classroom jobs! Children will be shown (by powerpoint) what each job entails and what type of characteristics they need to have for each job. The aim here is to get to know children’s personalities: Who is a leader: who is shy: who is outspoken: who is a decent writer etc. Plus it beats a ‘my summer holiday recount’ right? Also another way to reinforce classroom expectations at the beginning of the year, i.e. what each child is expected to do as a responsibility to their classroom. Included is: 14 page PPT outlining each job and explaining the activity Job application form with scaffolding and images Class Jobs posters (as seen in the cover image) Please do leave a review to let me know how you got on

KS2 Comprehension and Differentiated Activities

This comprehension is based on Qatar as a country and the processes they’ve put in place in order to host the World Cup 2022. It provides children with an interesting background knowledge of the country while testing their comprehension skills simultaneously. I have attached comprehension questions/activities for a lower ability, middle ability and higher ability learner, all in the same document. It worked well for the abilities in my own class, however it can be adapted to suit the needs of your class too. I have saved it as a word document and a PDF.
