French - TV opinions card sort

Pupils have a set of these cards in pairs and pick up a TV show card (image), an opinion card (emoji) and (for example) ‘je les trouve’ card, followed by ‘Par contre’ to make sentences. J’adore les dessins animés. Je les trouve très amusants. Par contre, je n’aime pas les documentaires. Je les trouve ennuyeux.

French - Music genres & opinions lesson

(0)
This is a whole lesson on different genres of music and how to give your opinion about the different genres. You will need access to the internet and speakers, as there is music for them to listen to in silence at the start and 3 different French singers/groups on YouTube (Louise Attaque, MC Solaar & Lilian Renaud). The accompanying worksheet is there to help pupils throughout the lesson.

French - Give the paintings a name

The idea of this activity is for the pupils to give the four French paintings their own titles. It’s amazing what they come up with! I would advise you give them dictionaries. Ideal as a starter for a dictionary skills lesson.

French - Find the 8 correct inventions

(0)
Which 8 were invented/discovered by French people? Pupils choose the 8 inventions/discoveries they think are correct and click on them. Either a tick or a cross will appear. An example is ‘Battery 1800’.

French - Describe the painting

(0)
Using Monet’s painting, ‘Jardin à Sainte-Adresse’ and example sentences underneath the painting, pupils have to change one word (if it’s a noun, they can change le/la) to make a sentence of their own. This activity focuses in particular on colours and agreements.

French - 'L'automne' poem lesson

(0)
Introduce the well-known poem ‘L’Automne’ using the PPT and use the worksheet alongside it. The poem goes through the poem, using the words and images for certain parts of the poem to aid understanding. Pupils do gap-fill on the worksheet whilst listening and watching the presentation. By the end of the detailed presentation, pupils will be able to write their own version of the poem in French, using support.

This PPT introduces pupils to 8 different famous French people in history. Each person has a short text to describe them and pupils work together to translate each text. Pupils then use the attached cards to match the pictures to their descriptions. The attached worksheet is designed for pupils to write short paragraphs in French about the people studied. A quiz PPT has now been added for post-lesson revision.

French - Daily routine presentation

Use this PPT to introduce daily routine vocab to pupils. It starts by introducing the vocab, then pupils have to choose between the two options in French. Then, they must identify the phrases with the vowels missing. Finally, play a game of Blockbusters with the class to practise the new vocab.

French - Daily routine translation lesson

(0)
This is a cultural lesson based on the vocab of daily routine. Pupils watch a YouTube video, comparing the daily routine of a girl in the USA with a girl in Haiti. They then use the worksheet to translate the texts about the girls’ daily routine into their books. They should cut out the relevant half of the sheet, stick it into their books and then translate underneath each one. Get pupils to do a rough draft first, to be copied up neatly into their books.

Learn from your mistakes - display

This is a list of quotes from famous and successful people in history who failed their way to the top. I have this on display in my classroom and regularly refer to it when encouraging learning from mistakes.
