Introduce the poem ‘Pour dessiner un bonhomme’ using this PPT, which goes through each section, using animations to aid understanding.

Pupils have a set of these cards in pairs and pick up a TV show card (image), an opinion card (emoji) and (for example) ‘je les trouve’ card, followed by ‘Par contre’ to make sentences. J’adore les dessins animés. Je les trouve très amusants. Par contre, je n’aime pas les documentaires. Je les trouve ennuyeux.

Introduce the well-known poem ‘L’Automne’ using the PPT and use the worksheet alongside it. The poem goes through the poem, using the words and images for certain parts of the poem to aid understanding. Pupils do gap-fill on the worksheet whilst listening and watching the presentation. By the end of the detailed presentation, pupils will be able to write their own version of the poem in French, using support.

This PPT introduces pupils to 8 different famous French people in history. Each person has a short text to describe them and pupils work together to translate each text. Pupils then use the attached cards to match the pictures to their descriptions. The attached worksheet is designed for pupils to write short paragraphs in French about the people studied. Use this PPT to introduce daily routine vocab to pupils. It starts by introducing the vocab, then pupils have to choose between the two options in French. Then, they must identify the phrases with the vowels missing. Finally, play a game of Blockbusters with the class to practise the new vocab.

This is a cultural lesson based on the vocab of daily routine. Pupils watch a YouTube video, comparing the daily routine of a girl in the USA with a girl in Haiti. They then use the worksheet to translate the texts about the girls’ daily routine into their books. They should cut out the relevant half of the sheet, stick it into their books and then translate underneath each one. Get pupils to do a rough draft first, to be copied up neatly into their books.
