If you were to ask anyone in the White Rose Maths team what the most common request from teachers has been over the past few years, there is no doubt they would reply with the following question, ‘When are you releasing something for Reception?’ Drawing together a team of EYFS specialists and teachers, we are excited to release our brand new Reception Schemes which we hope will support Reception practitioners within their own settings. Taking the end of year Early Learning Goals into account, we have created a progression to support teachers in building up the key small steps in learning throughout the year. When working with Reception teachers, our team found that teachers wanted clearer guidance in what they needed to cover within the year. Our progression helps support the coverage whilst still providing flexibility with how long you spend on different topics depending on your classes’ needs. The progression is then broken down into small steps which give more detailed guidance on how to approach adult-led teaching of concepts, and how to enhance your provision areas to support teaching. Within the small steps, we have focused on key questions to support all adults within the setting to unpick children’s understanding and to enable them to move forward with their learning. The suggestions for learning could be used for short adult-led inputs or group activities with the children. We hope you find the guidance useful #MathsEveryoneCan

So, for example our Y6 assessment does not just cover the Y6 objectives – which is what we had previously done. Instead it now covers content from other year groups too. We have done this after speaking to schools and leaders and we also recognise this reflects SATs assessments. We hope these assessments are useful for you and your students. Writing assessments is always a difficult task but we have tried to write questions that will help you identify strengths that students have and areas that need additional work. Welcome to White Rose Maths’ new, more detailed schemes of learning for 2017-18. We have listened to all the feedback over the last 2 years and as a result of this, we have made some changes to our primary schemes. The new schemes still have the as the old ones, but we have tried to provide more detailed guidance. It’s back! White Rose Maths Problem of the Day. Along with the usual PDFs we have added a powerpoint that will be updated each day. The calendar is hyperlinked to take you straight to the new problems and answers are provided. Full worked solutions will be provided at the end of the month. The White Rose Maths Hub have created a maths trail to be used at the fabulous Yorkshire Sculpture Park - 200 Year 4 children took part in the trail on June 20th and a great day was had by all. Although designed for Y4 children, children of all ages can benefit from a visit to the park. Maybe even share with parents to use over the Summer holidays? NB - Occasionally some of the Sculptures are changed at the YSP but we will try our best to keep this free trail up to date and accurate. Enjoy! The WRMH Team
