The Kayapo are the indigenous people of Brazil. They live in the plains of the Mato Grosso and Para south of the Amazon Basin and along the Rio Xingu and its tributaries. They call themselves ‘Mebengokre’, which translates to ‘people of the wellspring’.

What to consider when evaluating whether a source is trustworthy is then examined.

These worksheets help students to explore the fruits, vegetables, medicines, and other everyday objects found in the rainforest. Students are presented with a list of items commonly found at home to highlight how resourceful the rainforest is, and they can try five of these themselves (fruits and nuts). Living in the rainforests and mountains of northern Brazil and southern Venezuela, the Yanomami are the largest relatively isolated tribe in South America. Today their population stands at around 32,000 and their territory covers 9.6 million hectares, twice the size of Switzerland.
These worksheets help the students to explore the set up of the Yanomami village, the daily lives and rolls of the girls/mothers and boys/fathers, as well as investigating the use of paint to decorate their faces and bodies.
The culture of a group of people is their way of life. This unit of work encourages students to appreciate the links between music and Geography, why it is popular, the many genres it entails and how it is used around the world.
Traditions from Brazil, China, England, India, and Russia are investigated for their similarities in instruments, dances, and festivals. Music as an economic activity is explored, in addition to festivals in the United Kingdom and why they may be located where they are. Local venues to the students, both indoors and outdoors, are investigated for their sustainability for hosting a music festival.
The unit concludes with the students designing a brand and logo for a sustainable music festival at their school. The final designs are then peer assessed.

This booklet is designed to help students distinguish fact and opinion and offer both positive and negative arguments to real and artificial Christmas trees. They discover the history behind the origins of the Christmas tree and discuss why they think it’s so popular. The social, economic, and environmental implications of each type of tree are discussed and analysed to aid the students in deciding which they think is more appropriate. Their task is to use what they have learnt to design a leaflet highlighting their opinion to help the public decide; this is then peer assessed. The lesson concludes with the students designing their own alternative Christmas tree using their hobbies as inspiration.

This booklet allows students to explore tourism from its definition to types of tourism and their impacts. The unit starts by introducing the difference between leisure and tourism, where we holiday, the types of tourism available to us and how our holidays have changed and grown.
Tourism as an economic activity is explored in terms of the employment and GDP generated. Impacts of tourism are investigated in the unlikely but busy location of Antarctica, while the management of these social, economic, and environmental impacts are highlighted in our National Parks.
Sustainable and eco-tourism is researched looking at strategies in place around the world and specifically at the Galapagos Islands. Blackpool, UK, is used to explain Butler’s Cycle of Tourism Model and leads into the exciting topic of Movie-Induced Tourism. Book, film, and television are used to highlight how they can encourage tourism growth to particular areas and the positive and negative impacts this can have before, during, and after production.
The unit concludes with the students creating their own Movie-Induced tour. They will create a short introduction video to tourists to your country and design a week’s holiday for visitors to include a major city, seaside resort, historic town, countryside area and a special place of their own.

Christmas seems to arrive earlier each year and become more frantic to-boot! I saw this idea a few months back and thought it could be a fun activity with a tutor group or clubs – Especially as my partner pointed out that so many advent calendars appear to have no reference to Christmas apart from the twenty-four little doors.
The idea is a fun and selfless way to celebrate the countdown to Christmas Day, giving us all time to pause and think about the season’s true and original meaning.
I have included twenty-four ideas of my own, however you may have some of your own personal ones to include. Your students may wish to make their own up as a class, in group or individually.
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. ‘Ori’ is Japanese for folding and ‘kami’ is Japanese for paper and its day is celebrated on 11th November. This craft can be used as a fun activity during tutor time, for example
