A fully resourced and innovative lesson looking at Medieval Life in Europe. The focus is on the life of peasants, the nobility and the role of the church. It has been used with incredible success for many years to high school students across Europe, America and Asia. An extract from Katja Hoyer’s excellent ‘Blood and Iron’. It is the chapter which provides a ‘summary of the First World War’ and takes the conflict up until the battles of Verdun and the Somme. There are 8 comprehension questions and has been used successfully with Year 9 students to get them to engage with extended reading and history scholarship. I used it as an introduction to the topic but it could equally fit as a homework or a recap task at the end of the unit. Hope it helps.
