A KS3 unit of work which includes a Learning Challenge, Collaborative Task, Challenge Zone activity with extension question, literacy and numeracy embedded throughout. This unit combines knowledge of place (Europe) and a key issue (Plate Tectonics)It begins with revisiting map skills. Then looks at 3 key locations; UK, Italy and Iceland. Structured to familiarise students with GCSE unit structure, the unit begins with abiotic and biotic characteristics before looking at a recent earthquake and volcanic event. There is a diagnostic assessment, mid point assessment and end of unit assessment. Purple Pen Progress lessons included after the mid-point and end-point.

This unit is built to expand students’ geographical vocabulary and provide opportunities for them to build their geographical skills toolbox. Every lesson provides opportunities to develop subject specific literacy and numeracy skills, to work collaboratively, and to practice and develop mapping and graph-reading skills which will then be used throughout KS3/4. Students expand their knowledge and understanding of place at a national level through investigating the geography of the U.K. This unit delivers an overview of physical and human geography of the U.K., together with key themes which will be expanded upon in later yearsl; population, immigration, economic activity, weather and climate. A concerted effort has been made to reduce photocopying by creating resources which can be laminated and used by multiple groups or repeatedly throughout the unit.

This unit intended to give basic world concepts; continents & oceans, concepts of mapping and basic map skills. Each lesson is built to expand geographical vocabulary and provide opportunities to build a geographical skills toolbox. Every lesson provides opportunities to develop subject specific literacy and numeracy skills, to work collaboratively, and to practice and develop mapping skills which will then be used throughout KS3/4. A concerted effort was made to move away from cartoon-style mapping activities, and instead to allow students to use sophisticated and real-life, local OS maps. Every effort has been made to reduce photocopying by creating resources which can be laminated and used by multiple groups or repeatedly throughout the unit.

This unit expands upon base knowledge, students have their basic skills toolbox, and this unit is intended to give a taste of geographical themes and issues on a global scale. This unit is intended to broaden horizons and to develop understanding that local actions can have global consequences. Students will be introduced to basic geographical graphing skills to add to their toolbox.

A fully resourced unit. This unit begins with mapping areas within Northern Europe, and interleaves basic mapping skills; grid referencing, compass directions, scale and distance. The fist section focuses on the formation of glaciated landscapes, before looking at conflict in the Lake District. This section is followed by a mid-unit test. The second half of the unit looks at causes and consequences of flooding in Scandinavia, followed by a case study looking at cruise ship tourism. There is an end of unit assessment. Mark schemes and “correct” answers provided throughout.
