This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of each letter provide guidance of where exactly to write.

There are four designs, each numbered and each slightly differently according to the design and level that best suits your learner/s. The numbers 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet) and the cover image left to right shows the levels in order of easiest (1 - most support, less challenge) to hardest (4 - least support, more challenge).
The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 100.
Each set of letters has been included on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line.
There is a clear space at the top of each sheet for learners to write their name.

How to use this resource
An adult needs to cut out and make the three phonics dice - clear instructions are included. Each player will need one game card (and a pencil!) There are two game cards included on page 3 - these can be printed/photocopied as many times as needed and the sheet cut in half to separate the two game cards (one per player).
This game can be for one learner to play alone or for several learners to play together in a group (taking turns).
The game instructions are included on pages 1 and 3 of the download - I will also include them here:
How to play game
Each player takes turns to roll the three dice together.
Each player places the three dice next to each other, left to right - red, amber, green.
Player sounds out the graphemes to read the word.
If this is a ‘real’ word player writes it in the coloured boxes on their card (on the ‘left’ side). If this is a ‘nonsense’ word the player writes this word in the coloured boxes on their card (on the right side).
Play passes to next player.
If a player rolls the same combination as previously rolled they can have another turn.
First player to roll (read and write!) x5 real OR nonsense words wins!
There are various words which can be made using this combination of letters in the set order. Some ‘real word’ examples include sat/bat/hat/mat/pat/rat, pig/bill/hill/mill/pill, pull/bug/hug/mug/rug, sock/rock/hog, hen/men/pen/red/bell/sell. I hope you have fun finding them all - real AND nonsense!

How to use this resource
As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here the all can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included ‘covers’ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A ‘cover’ for ALL sounds is included on Page 4.
Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors.

Suggestion
I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the letters) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the keyring.
I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf.

The word search letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font.
The 2D shape names (and related words) have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden ‘shape words’ below the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards not backwards) OR vertically (up as well as down). Words to find are ellipse, circle, semi circle, heart, round, triangle, edges, side, square, rectangle, rhombus, vertices, pentagon, hexagon, star and regular.
Support/extension
The 2D shape images are hidden in this word search as well as the 2D shape name. For learners who would like an extra challenge, learners can find (and name) these - ticking the images off in the boxes below the word search (on page 1).
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words, enabling all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible in order to find all hidden words. If words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify.
This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. The black and white version is a good version for photocopying.

I find word searches like this are ideal for ‘quiet times’ during the day. Word searches are also ideal as an introduction to a topic, follow on activity for early finishers, a fun approach to a topic themed and as an engaging homework task - supporting reading, spelling and maths.

Learners may find ‘pod’, ‘cogs’ and ‘mat’ more tricky to match as these three words are not as obvious/may be ‘new’ concepts to learners, encouraging learners to think a bit more about the meaning of the words on the cards. E.g. some learners may not know that a ‘pea’ grows inside of a ‘pod’. Learners may not know/be familiar with ‘cogs’ (or know they are called) and learners may confuse ‘cat’ with ‘mat’. I have included an orange arrow pointing to the ‘mat’ to help make this clearer.

This download includes nine A4, portrait pdf sheets which make a number matching set featuring x54 cards which includes all letters of the alphabet with an image to match.

This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
What’s it for?
This resource is to practise identifying the initial sounds for x26 images and matching these to the written letter/sound (grapheme). Both upper and lowercase letters are including - helping to reinforce both.
How to use this resource
This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on a ring. Learners look at each picture card and (if they are able) say what it is. Learners then say the initial sound for each picture and match the ‘picture’ card to the alphabet ‘letter’ card which shows the same initial sound. Once the set is matched into pairs (picture and letter cards together) learners can then order the card pairs from the beginning to the end of the alphabet or in reverse which can be much trickier!
Pictures included are apple, banana, car, dog (Dachshund!), egg, frog, grass, house, ink, jam, key, lemon, milk, nine numbers, orange, pink pig, quarter, robot, sun, tree, upside-down umbrella, van, wall (not to be confused with ‘bricks’ !) xylophone, yellow yoyo, zebra.
This alphabet matching set could be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to cross-check the correct orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing.
Games
This ‘Alphabet Match’ set could also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the picture cards or all the letter cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up.
Suggestion
Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) as seen on the main resource image are ideal for this resource and can be purchased online easily. Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small amount of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource.

This activity set has been designed to give learners an opportunity to look more closely at a set of the first 100/200 high frequency words and practise seeing these words on sight while matching these words with images. This set focuses on tricky words, all ‘nouns’ - all words included have a matching image.
This is a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support.
How to use it?
An adult can pre-cut along dotted lines provided and the set of x17 words (and images) can be shuffled and placed face-up on the carpet/a table top for learners to look at carefully and try to match.

These words are all from the first 100/200 high frequency word list and are all ‘tricky’.
Red letters indicate the ‘tricky’ part/s.
Some letters are underlined - this indicates that together these (underlined) letters have one sound.
A ‘key’ is included at the top of each sheet (top, right).
The lilac box outline colour indicates that these words are all part of the ‘nouns’ set (other sets are coming!)
The small, white cross (top left of each image box) indicates that these words are not intended to be sounded out. Adults may wish to provide learners with one sheet at a time (cut up and ready to ‘match’) or all x4 sheets at once. All sheets provide learners with an opportunity to become more familiar with seeing and reading these words on-sight.

This pdf download includes x3 landscape orientation sheets featuring x7 colour ‘splats’ with colour name labels with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane colours for (window) display.
What’s it for?
These colours have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the coloured shapes look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the colour ‘falls’ depends on the position of the colours in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole set of colours together as a focus to encourage learners to recognise and name each colour. The colours can of course be repositioned and displayed as you choose. I have included a ‘Colours!’ label to be displayed with the set of shapes.
This resource would also support work on shadows and light/dark.

The colours all have a colour name label which is in the font ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 45. There are x3 pages. The first page includes clear instructions with two colours, the second page includes remaining colours in the set and the last page the ‘Colours!’ word label.
Suggestions
I recommend printing and making these letters out of white card - paper would be too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive on Amazon(!)
I recommend also backing every colour in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time and to do this x6 sheets of A4 white card will be needed (instead of x3 sheets).

This simple, clear resource has been carefully designed to encourage young readers especially pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Knowing these number names (words) is also an important part of maths in these year groups as questions and information often includes the number name as the written word (e.g. ‘three’) instead of the more easily recognisable numeral (e.g. ‘3’).
Resource layout
The twenty number name words have been organised into four groups of five, clearly showing all hidden number words in order up to twenty. There are x20 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (up and down - both directions). Directional arrows on the answer sheet (page 2) make it clear exactly where to look if learners get stuck.
The version of this word search which includes numerals is ideal for those learners either needing the additional support of having the numeral AND the number name shown together. For learners who would like an extra challenge, the numerals from 1 - 20 are all also hidden within the wordsearch. Once the learner has located each of these they could be circled on the wordsearch and ticked off in the box below. The numerals have been included in a variety of font styles to encourage learners to get used to recognising numerals written differently.
On the colour/black and white versions of the word search there is a space in the four boxes (under the wordsearch where the hidden words are displayed) for learners to write the numerals next to the number names themselves.
On all versions of this word search there is a space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet) and to record the number date (top, left).

As said, these CVC cards have been designed to be printed double-sided on card to use with the ‘Function Machine’ (~instructions of how to make one of these included) to practise sounding out simple CVC (Phase 2 phonics) words - learners read each word then push the card into the top function machine slot and can see if they are correct when the picture pops out of the slot below.
This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently.
How to use it?
An adult needs to print these card (double-sided) onto card and and pre-cut the cards into x10 separate rectangle cards.
The set of cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners read each word by sounding out the individual phonemes, they then push the card into the top slot of the function machine and find out if they are correct when the picture pops out of the lower slot…

The words/pictures included use phonemes/graphemes from Phases 2 and 3 but mainly Phase 2.
The words included in this set are -
Blue (Set** u**)
mug, bun (may be confused with ‘cake’ or ‘cupcake’ though in Yorkshire (where I am from!) this is a ‘bun’!), duck, cup, truck, slug, sun, bug, plug, hut.
Sets for ALL vowels (doubled sided or as separate cards to read and match) are also available in my TES shop. Each set is a different colour to avoid cards becoming mixed up.

As said, these CVC cards have been designed to be printed double-sided on card to use with the ‘Function Machine’ (~instructions of how to make one of these included) to practise sounding out simple CVC (Phase 2 phonics) words - learners read each word then push the card into the top function machine slot and can see if they are correct when the picture pops out of the slot below.
This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently.
How to use it?
An adult needs to print these card (double-sided) onto card and and pre-cut the cards into x10 separate rectangle cards.
The set of cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners read each word by sounding out the individual phonemes, they then push the card into the top slot of the function machine and find out if they are correct when the picture pops out of the lower slot…

This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of each letter provide guidance of where exactly to write.
Sets 6a and 6b zz qu ng ch sh th
There are four previous sets in the same design for all of the letters in Phase 2, plus one set (5) for Phase 3… Like those sets these sets (6a and 6b) each includes four designs, each numbered and each slightly differently according to the design and level that best suits your learner/s. The numbers 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet) and the cover image left to right shows the levels in order of easiest (1 - most support, less challenge) to hardest (4 - least support, more challenge).
The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 100.
Each set of letters has been included on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line.
There is a clear space at the top of each sheet for learners to write their name.

Learners have four sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set has kept little hands very busy and focused (for me!) I hope the same will be true for you! This has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently.

How to use it?
Each learner needs to cut out and match two ‘phoneme pictures’ to every grapheme (printed on the left side). Dotted lines guide where to cut, though the picture-squares could be pre-cut for those who struggle with cutting out.

I split ‘phase 2’ into four sets, one set per sheet. Not all phonemes are ‘initial’ letters (in sets 3 and 4 here) - so learners may need this pointing out before working on these independently if you want them to be kept focused.

p - panda, pear (learners should watch out not to confuse ‘needle’ with ‘pin’)

Optional Extension
Adding the word labels is optional and best provided as an extension for more able/quick learners. These tiny labels can be cut out and added under each ‘phoneme picture’, though the phoneme/grapheme matching should be completed first. The word labels are not consistently sound-out-able and learners would need to use their knowledge of the phonemes/graphemes already matched during the activity and look at the initial/final letter sounds to help them.

This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the CVC Phonics Wheel can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesn’t matter.
Some words will be ‘real’ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real/will be ‘nonsense’ words e.g. len/ren - these can be written on page 3 - there is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet).
Suggestion
For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ‘real’ words e.g. ‘fen’ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England).
