This is the third lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the Milton and his impact - specifically the controversy of Paradise Lost. The students will Miltonic excerpts as well as quotation from other poets who Milton influenced in preparation for responding to an unseen Romantic poem next lesson. This A Level lesson looks at the origins of protest with what is arguably the original protest: Genesis and the Devil’s interference with mankind. This lesson is the first in a 3 lesson SOW that introduces the students to the origins of the tragic genre. In this lesson, students become familiar with vocabulary associated with the tragic genre, with a particular focus on Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex.

In this lesson, students will use prompts and their previous knowledge of the tragic genre to construct their own plan for a tragic play. Students will, after presenting their ideas, choose one scene from their play to write out in full. Includes a 10 question tragedy quiz with teacher answers.

This lesson is the third in a three lesson SOW that introduces the students to the origins of the tragic genre. In this lesson, students will become familiar with different tragic solilquies throughout history: from Antigone, to Othello, to Death of a Salesman. The students will choose to analyse one of six soliloquies, and then get into pairs so that they can present a comparative analysis.

This lesson is part of a three lesson scheme in which students analyse the origins of the tragic genre. In this lesson, students will become familiar with the themes and characters of the play ‘Medea’.

This lesson focuses on the context of Shakespeare’s works - Elizabethan/Jacobean England, treasonous plots, royal affairs, religion and witchcraft.

This lesson is the second in a 3 lesson mini scheme of work on the context of Shakespearean England. However, this could easily be a stand alone lesson. This session focuses on the social classes of Elizabethan England, and where they would be positioned in the theatre. The students will complete a creative writing task from the perspective of a groundling, and then self-review against a success criteria.

This is the third lesson in a 3 lesson mini-scheme on Tragedy in Shakespeare. However, this can easily be a standalone lesson. This lesson can be taught even if the students don’t have a prior knowledge of Romeo and Juliet.

This lesson includes: Word of the week (tragedy) Intro to tragic heroes and hamartia Study of Oedipus and his hamartia Study of tragic soliloquies (using ‘Out out brief candle’ soliloquy).

This lesson was for my intervention year 7 group, and therefore is very scaffolded. This would easily work for a year 5 or 6 class. This lesson includes: Introduction to connotations Finding connotations of the word ‘romanticism’ Finding inferences in images of the Industrial Revolution, and the natural world A fact-file activity with matching resources

Originally planned for intervention Y7 set, therefore would also work with Y5/6 class or LA Y7/8. This lesson introduces students to the poem ‘The Moon’ by Robert Louis Stevenson, and allows them to explore what the moon has symbolised throughout literature. Students will then find connotations of words & phrases in the poem during a guided activity. Worksheets/resources are included at the end of the slides.

This lesson was originally made for a bottom set year 7 class, and therefore can easily be used with an intervention Y8 or Y6 group.

This lesson was orginally planned for my bottom set interevention Y7 group, so would work for a Y5/6 class. This lesson teaches students to plan a paragraph, using poet intent, techniques and connotations as a basis for their wider ideas. Would work as a one-off poetry paragraphing lesson.

This lesson teaches students to plan and write a paragraph about a poem, using their knowledge of techniques, connotations and poet intent. This was planned for my Y7 intervention set, so would also work for a Y5/6 class. Includes a self-review at the end, and all teacher resources are attached at the end of the ppt.

This lesson teaches students to find violent verbs and onomatopoeia in Hughes’ poem ‘Wind’. This was made for my intervention year 7 sets, so would suit a year 5/6 class as well.
