However, these are not the sort of standard tutorials that you find on the web. During the videos you will be set tasks to do in scratch and hopefully you will be able to complete them on your own. However don't worry the next video in each project will show you how to complete the task!! These videos are really targeted at KS2 students although the content of the full app will go on to stretch and challenge even the most able of them with variables, cloning, broadcasting and many other features of Scratch. There's even a quiz in the app so you can test your scratch knowledge too!!

This is a really cool task to get kids moving with graphics software. I use fireworks but I guess it's easy enough to adapt for say photoshop. Anyway take two animals, rip the head off one, add it to the other and use rubber stamps, opacity, magic wand, hue/saturation to make it look like a 'cloned&' or &';morphed' animal. you might be surprised by what kids can create!!

Very useful for Cam Nats R002 as kids can count it as 'item of publicity' in task 2 of this unit. After all everyone loves a PowerPoint but this one shows you how to do it properly!!

In this video you can show students how to make a set of business cards that mail merge in both images and text. Using spreadsheets and publisher they end up with a set of individual business cards for a group of individuals at their organisation. This is a logical progression step if you have used the Mafia Zoo (gangsta zoo on teach-ict) scenario.

First of all the javascript menu files is a zip and not a doc, you wil need to download it, rename and the extract. The videos have no controls as they are swf files. Does not sound like a good start does it!! Trust me you will have kids making very fancy drop down menus with this and it's a nailed on distinction for unit 21 of Nationals if you follow that course.

Yes that is an odd title. Anyway I use this as an end of year 8 exam to test simple spreadsheet techniques, mail merging and a bit of graphics. Guess you would have to customise the instructions as they are geared to my school but it won't take much editing. Still kids enjoyed it last year and it was an exam!!

Now first of all whilst these are screencasts, they are not the standard sort of activity that you would find on the likes of YouTube. What happens is that there is a screencast that gives the students a task to work out and if they are unable to solve the problem then there is a solution video to accompany the task set. This way your students have to think about how to solve the problem, rather than simply following a 'how to' style tutorial. So what's in the set of tutorials? Well there are 5 app builds, the first 2 are simple little ones to get your students familiar with the interface and show them how to make a 'soundboard' and a variation of the magic 8 ball. The other 3 app builds have far more detail.

Some basic graphics work to get kids to make fabulous artwork to adorn your classroom walls with. All using the free browser based graphics editor called Pixlr so everyone can access this lesson. Jolly good fun that will keep the kids busy for a couple of hours at least. First video is aimed at kids from a school in China, where I am teaching, and they would not have known the British people in the picture, doesn’t make any difference to the skills being taught though.

Series of videos to show kids how to make an insert for a video game case. The example uses a well known series of football games and will keep your students busy for many hours and they will learn some really good graphics skills along the way. It’s a really good project that your students will enjoy. I made the videos a few years ago now but it all still works today.

Quite simply there is nothing out there better than this set of tutorials to get your students’ heads around scratch. Most teachers will use YouTube videos or paid for resources and frankly the kids learn very little by just repeating what they see on the video or printed in front of them. Why is this app different? Because each video sets a task for the student to do and eventually it builds into a playable game. If your students struggle with a with a task then there is also a solution video and there is always a final video to identify extension tasks to stretch and challenge the most able.
