Students will then work together in pairs to analyse the differing styles and come to a detailed explanation to what country they would prefer to live in and why. Students will look at unemployment due to the Great Depression; a number of sources/opinions from the time will be shared with the students in order for them to understand the far-reaching impact of the economic downturn. The Jarrow March, the car industry and far-right politics are also looked at throughout the lesson. I would aim to teach this lesson across two hours, allowing students to answer the questions carefully. The resource is self-contained so can be set as online independent work.

Students will look at Belgian resistance here with a source analysis task. Students will then move on towards the origins of trench warfare with the race to the sea before looking at Russian involvement on Germany’s Eastern Front. This lesson ends with a source analysis question based on early Russian dominance against the Austro-Hungarians.
