Mean from a table

Mean from a table

(0)
Lesson starting with finding averages from a list of numbers, moving to finding mean from a table to the challenge of finding estimated mean. Presentation goes through this with students then there is a differentiated worksheet for students to complete. There is a plenary activity that I usually do in silence for the students to reflect on what they have learnt in this lesson. There are three sections looking at each of the 3 different elements of the lesson. Then get them to check their answers through peer assessment.
Simplify indices

Simplify indices

(0)
Differentiated lesson looking at the basics of indices (green, simplify powers, orange with brackets, red numbers in front of the x) and then there are also GCSE questions for students to complete. The GCSE questions can be printed as a booklet or questions and then give the answers. At the end of the lesson there is a 'singing plenary' which is high school musical. Students are to use mini whiteboards to answer which they think is correct. If they get it right, a song will play.

Angles on a straight line, at a point and in a triangle

(0)
This differentiated lesson looks at angles on a straight line, angles at a point and angles in a triangle. The worksheet is split into essential, excel and challenge. The challenge section looks at students combining angle facts that they have learnt. Answers are provided and there is a singing plenary to finish with. In this, students are to write the correct answer on their mini whiteboard and then it will play part of glee for the students.

Differentiated lesson on cumulative frequency. You can either print the booklet for students to complete or you can print the questions on coloured paper (green, orange, red) and put them in plastic wallets for students to complete using their mini whiteboards. They can move around the classroom answering the questions. The reflect on your learning is for the students as a plenary to check understanding.

Adding fractions

Differentiated lesson looking at adding fractions. Green questions are adding fractions with the same denominator, orange different denominators and red is mixed fractions. Works really well if you do the glee as a plenary.

Plans and elevations lesson. Really useful if students can use 'mathlink' to build the shapes and then draw the different views.

Differentiated lesson on complex angle problems. Lesson looking at calculating missing angles and giving reasons. There are two booklets with answers for students to complete. Solving inequalities

Differentiated whole lesson on solving inequalities. There is a lesson that goes through how to solve inequalties with questions to complete on mini whiteboards. Then there is a match up that is differentiated in difficulty. If you print them on different coloured paper shows clear differentiation. I usually go for green for essential, orange for excel and red for challenge. Blue are the answers. And then a 'singing' plenary to finish with. Students to answer the question on their mini whiteboards and then music plays.

This activity is aimed at lower ability students or younger years. There is a lesson with differentiated activities for students to complete. There is also a differentiated dominoes set that can be printed out and then students can play. These are categorised into green, orange and red, red being the hardest. There is also a singing plenary at the end of students to complete on their mini whiteboards. If the students get the answer correct, then it will play part of family guy for them.
