Mass and Weight Jigsaw Differentiated

Fully differentiated. This resource comes with 4 puzzles, all identical, but with a varying number of pieces. I have included the images, and text so that you can use them in whichever way you see fit. This activity is a piece of text on mass and weight that has been jumbled up into a puzzle. I have printed and laminated mine, however I often use paper copies with lower achievers so that the can be glued into their books. Some ideas on how to use this resource High achievers - remove 1 or 2 of the text pieces of the puzzle. Students make the puzzle and then have to improvise for the missing piece of text by completing the text using their own knowledge.

PLEASE VISIT MY SHOP TO DOWNLOAD OVER 100 FREE RESOURCES OR TO PURCHASE FROM MY BARGAIN STORE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/heelis This is suitable for struggling scientists at ks4 or KS3 at any level. Following the Specification of the new curriculum as at 2017, the lesson objectives are as follows: To understand the relationship between mass and weight, that mass is a property of an object and how to calculate weight using the equation W=mxg. The resource has a short introduction to mass and weight and has 2 activity sheets, one for low achievers and another for higher. I have included the .jpg files of each in case you wanted to put them in any other formats.

Evaporation and Condensation - Differentiated "Survival" Activity

Objectives: To understand how evaporation is linked to thermal energy transfer To understand how to change the rate of evaporation/condensation I have found this works best in small groups where students can discuss ideas. The activity should take about 40 minutes and then another 20 minutes for peer assessment. Activity overview: Give higher achievers a text book and lower achievers the accompaning text. I usually allow students to answer whichever questions they wish but generally find that they attempt most. Students have found themselves stranded on a deserted island with no food, shelter, water or fuel. They have discovered that the island’s inhabitants are only too happy to supply them with the essentials, providing that they share their knowledge of science with them. Each question asked has point values. At the end of the journey students count up how many points they have accumulated to see how well they were able to survive!

This resource consists of a multiple choice quiz with answer sheet and a link word activity. Instructions on the link word are provided and follow below. Link Words Students placed in groups of two and given a relevant textbook. Working as a team, using glossaries, text book, internet etc. students then force a relationship between as many of the words as they can by making coherent sentences with their chosen words… They can either:- 1. Write an sentence using the two words that clearly explains how they are linked. See examples below * ___________ is linked to _________ because __________________. *. ________ is linked to ______ an example is ______________. *. ________ is similar to ________ because ________________. *. _______ is different to ________ because _______________. *. We can use _________________ to ____________ because _________. 2. Simply make sentences using as many of the words from the sheet as possible. To differentiate the task the words carry a number score. A high ability student would have a far higher score than a lower ability student. This forces the higher level student to choose words that have a higher value ie more difficult to make connections to. Encourage students to use as many words as they can in their EXPLANATION as they will be added to their scores.
