Hello all! I'm Jinky, a primary maths teacher and Maths Academic Coordinator at Beaconhouse Yamsaard Rangsit, Thailand. One of my joy is to find time to take photos of anything I think interesting. As a primary maths teacher, I truly believe using colours in the learning environment. I believe that colours provide unthreatening surroundings that improves visual processing, reduces stress and promote active learning. I always encourage my pupils to do their best when doing their worksheets and projects and reward them by putting them on display either on the Maths board or classroom. These two photos were used as displays during our Open House.

KS3 Rounding Off Numbers in different currencies

(2)
Rounding off numbers is an important part of Maths and a very handy tool for everyday life. To introduce rounding off numbers to my pupils, I do an activity on the board using the numberline. This helps them to see it visually. It works for the many who do not understand why we round up for 5 and greater and round down for less than 5. It gets them in the habit of estimating amounts of money, lengths of time, distances, decimals and many other physical quantities. We practice a lot and mastered it comprehensively. As a result, this worksheet takes a little of their time.
Cardinal and Ordinal Direction Poster

Cardinal and Ordinal Direction Poster

Direction is one of the basic geography concepts that students need to master before moving on to reading maps and diagrams. I used this poster to expain the ‘clockwise’ and ‘anti-clockwise’ and the angles (45, 90, 135 degrees etc) between a cardinal and an ordinal direction. A great classroom game too. Afterwards, I used a real map to ask the pupils to name different places located in different directions. I displayed this poster for the pupils to relate to when reading maps during their free time.

It is important that children must learn and explain a route by specifying directions to a certain place. You may ask your pupils to colour this worksheet and display in your classroom once finished.
