An English Reading Comprehension Activity. This resource gives the learner an overview of the movie Encanto and well as listing the characters and their ‘super’ powers. Learners will read the text and then answer ten skimming and scanning questions based on this document. There is an extension question. Answers are provided so that learners can self mark. This would suit KS2/ KS3 aged learners.

A good refreser / lesson stater on this subject. This is a 22 page PPT on figurative language devices. A short task is also provided on the last slide. The PPT includes: What is a figurative language Examples of figurative language and the meaning including: -Oxymoron -Alliteration -Simile -Metaphor -Onomatopoeia -Idiom -Hyperbole -Personification Figurative language class quiz. Learners will answer questions on their whiteboards. Answers will appear on PPT. They need to identify the figurative language in eight portions of song lyrics. The last slide includes a portion of Katy Perry’s song ‘Roar.’ Learners will be asked to identify any of the eight figurative language devices that they have just learnt about.

They contain the quotes that are printed on the posters. Students can cut out these cards and laminate them for revision practice. THE GAME IS UPLOADED TWICE - DIFFERENTIATING FOR BOTH KS2 & KS3. A fun jubilee game. Hide the 10 clues around classroom and get the pupils to find them. They then have to work out the clues to escape the Tower of London! Instructions: You are trapped inside of the Tower of London and are going to miss the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party! your only way out is to solve a coded message. Solve it or you will be trapped inside forever! • There are ten clues hidden around the room. • You need to locate all ten clues and then you will need to solve them in order. • seven of the clues, once solved, will reveal different letters of the alphabet. there are grey boxes on the clue sheet for you to write these letters down, as well as space on your answer sheet. When you have noted down all of the letters, you will then unscramble the letters to reveal a ‘queen’ related phrase. • The three other clues will reveal three separate numbers. You will add these numbers together to reveal a 3-digit number. This will be the last part of the code. • Once you have ‘cracked’ both codes, you will then be able to escape from the tower!

A great resource that can be used as a prompt to research the British monarchy. The learners will conduct research on the monarchy after being prompted by key questions. They will then decide what their opinion is and write down 3 key points which support their opinion. They will then take part in a speaking and listening mock assessment and put their opinion forward in a class discussion.

Get your learners to play this fun game. Cut out the facial parts on page two which include eyes, a mouth and a nose. Each learner picks a pair of eyes, a nose and a mouth. Place blu-tack on the back and get them to close their eyes. They must stick these on the queen’s face. Take a picture of the poster and get the next learner to pick the facial parts and take part in the game ( remove previous facial features ). The person who creates the funniest face wins!

Pin the crown on the corgi! An A3 poster and additional sheet with cut-out crowns. There are three different designs: a corgi with a crown, a transparent crown and a corgi without a crown. You can print out and play the game with your chosen sheet. Get your learners to cut out a crown each and attach blu-tack to the back. Get them to close their eyes and see if they can correctly stick the crown on the corgi! They can close their eyes or wear a blindfold!
