These activities will help children work on a range of comprehension skills using a story many are already aware of and engaged with. A spelling test based on words from the Year 5/6 statutory spelling list. There are 20 spellings used in sentences to try and replicate the Year 6 spelling test, with the answer page being used by the adult to read out the spelling.

A fully planned and resourced set of 11 lessons for being able to write a diary. The planning is based on Lila's journey in The Firework-Maker's Daughter but most of the resources are easily adaptable to use for other diary writing units. Included are all the lesson presentations, resources and planning required as well as a fact file that children can stick in their book at the start of the unit.

Three differentiated resources used with Year 5 children to work on antonyms and synonyms. The first activity requires children to find five antonyms and five synonyms for each word listed. The second activity begins with a similar activity to the first activity, before moving on to a passage where children have to replace the underlined words with synonyms. The third activity starts with an activity where children have to replace the underlined words with synonyms before moving on to a passage where they have to pick out words they can replace with synonyms.
