The first part of the lesson focuses on being able to identify the missing sounds/ graphemes based on an image and the ‘sh’ already provided. This then leads into an activity that requires children to apply this independently.
Following this, children will practise as a group using them in sentences before independently writing their own sentences.

The tasks have been written with Year 6 in mind but could be easily used in Year 5 as well. An answer sheet is also included.
An activity that works on ‘oa’ with various images that include ‘oa’ within them where children are then required to fill in the missing gaps with the correct phonemes/ graphemes, using the image as a clue to support.

A fully-resourced double lesson that focuses on teaching coordinating conjunctions, with a specific focus on ‘and, but, so’.
The first lesson focuses on being able to identify them, as well as discussing the role they play. The second lesson then takes this learning and extends it by requiring children to decide what the most appropriate coordinating conjunction is in each sentence.

They both follow the same comprehension skills but provide the opportunity to differentiate the lessons across age groups with one set of planning being more suited to a Year 2 reading age and the other being suited to lower KS2.
