Six reading comprehension lessons that focus on The Firework-Maker's Daughter.
Each lesson follows the same style, focusing on reading the chapter before looking at any vocabulary children are unsure of. Children will then be shown how to pick out key words from questions as well as looking at what question words are looking for. Finally, children will be able to work through one of three differentiated worksheets that check their comprehension skills/ deeper understanding.
This is a PowerPoint that includes 100 slides looking at a big range of grammar and punctuation features. These include looking at defining, showing examples and for some activities for children to complete.
This can be used for a range of features including: revision activities, starters, morning activities for some and to just quickly find examples for a range of features.
A fully planned and resourced writing unit working on creating a setting description based on a storm with thunder and lightning.
Included in the resource is:
Lesson PowerPoints
Activity resources
Fronted adverbial word bank
Word bank linked to storms
Drafting sheet adapted from Single Paragraph Outline
Example texts
Starter activities for the first five lessons with answers included
A writing skills booklet that links to storms that can be used separately elsewhere to support writing in the unit
Notes for the planning and the aims of the lesson
With drafting and redrafting, as well as then publishing a final piece, there should be enough lessons for between 8 and 10 lessons. The first few lessons work on developing ideas and sentence construction ahead of the writing process with a lesson on developing vocabulary ideas, unpicking example texts, working on fronted adverbials and redrafting sentences forming the first four lessons. Where activities are used, these sentences also link purposefully to writing about storms to develop understanding further.
This then leads into drafting and redrafting, including teacher modelling and providing feedback based on how pupils write, with the previous activities and word banks still being available to support during the writing process.
Due to copyright, you will need to source an image to base the writing on - this needs to be a picture of a lightning storm and would preferably be set over a water scene - this is however reflected in the price and all resources uploaded are in PowerPoint format so they can be edited as required, including the lesson PowerPoints that include notes for teaching and where to add your own image
