This “Who’s Who in the Classroom” resource is a colourful poster for KS1 children returning to school. It features 18 children, each ready for their new class and year, making it a fun way to explore new friendships and learn about one another. The resource includes five activities where children can read and answer questions about the characters, identify them from descriptions, and practice phonics by matching names. They’ll also get to write names in alphabetical order, describe the characters to a friend, and write their own short descriptions. This resource supports learning about feelings, Ourselves, School and phonics. To make the learning experience more personal and engaging, you can create a class resource using the children’s own photos or drawings. Start by asking each child to either bring in a photo of themselves or draw a picture of how they see themselves. Then, create a large poster or a digital display featuring all the children’s images. Alongside each photo or drawing, add a space for the child’s name, a fun fact about them, and their favourite things. You can also include activities similar to the ones in the “Who’s Who in the Classroom” resource, such as matching names, ordering them alphabetically, or describing a classmate’s picture. This personalized resource reinforces the skills practiced in the original poster and also helps children feel more connected to their classmates and comfortable in their new environment.
