Head of Psychology and Assistant Head of Sixth Form at a large secondary school in South Yorkshire, teaching both GCSE and A Level Psychology to Y9-Y13. I aim to produce high quality resources that are easy to pick up and deliver but also provide a variety of activities to optimise pupil engagement whilst ensuring regular assessment tasks to ensure rapid progress.

This/these student led lesson(s) include key word mix and match, fill in the gap, cut and stick as well as practical activities to allow children to discover Piaget’s stages and his amain assumptions of schema development, egocentrism and conservation. Assessment comes in the form of mini whiteboard activities as well as written AO2 scenario based questions with model answers.

Introductory lessons in the development unit developing student knowledge of early brain development. Students are engaged through wholly student led tasks developing their knowledge of key terms, key brain areas and the influence of nature vs nurture. Experience teaching these lessons (2x50 minutes) highlighted the fact that it is meant to challenge the most able through the use of extended reading and newspaper articles but can be easily differentiated down with weaker students only completing some of the nature/nurture tasks. The thinking and discussion questions can be used as plenary/starter to assess progress between lesson 1 and 2.

A booklet aimed at Y11 but appropriate to students in any key stage that discusses what makes effective revision and why. (I have also used this with Y12 and Y13) Students are guided through a process of organising and prioritising their subjects/topics before they are introduced to the strategies that are most effective methods of revision and why (research supported) It ends with a copy of the GCSE Edexcel Psychology specification for students to use to RAG rate and create their priority list. This could quite easily be adapted for any specification of any subject.

This fully differentiated lesson is designed to gradually build on student’s knowledge whilst simultaneously developing examination skills. Previous students have found this lesson very accessible with assessments showing a good understanding of Darwin’s theory.

OBSERVATION READY LESSON. This lesson looks into the Yuki’s study of emoticon’s and includes a variety of differentiated activities to develop student’s AO1, 2 and 3 skills. This lesson was observed by SLT and very positive feedback received. Activities include: practical emoticon judgement task, fill in the gap activity, built in questions throughout, AO2 application question plus modelled answer, differentiated AO3 activity with 4 differentiated options, a variety of stretch and challenge activities embedded and highlighted throughout.
