These grids are ideal to copy and hand to students to assess an extended piece of work/essay. It gives the grades 1-8 and matching descriptors. A whole lesson on the character analysis of Victor Frankenstein. Starter consists of a list of adjectives to describe Victor and a range of quotations. Students select appropriate adjectives to link to the quotes. Main activity explores in-depth analysis of two quotations of their choice from the starter with space for language analysis too. This provides a practise for essay writing in following activity. Essay title and essay guide given for students to plan their essay. Essay structure is outlined including optional starting sentences for both the introduction and conclusion.

Adjectives to describe the creature are listed and students match them to appropriate quotations. The following task encourages detailed analysis of selected quotes to prepare for essay writing. An essay guide is given with outline and example of how to plan along with guidance on essay structure with optional starting sentences and concluding paragraph sentences. Two task sheets to be used as pre-reading or homework activities to be used when studying the novel Frankenstein.
