This lesson was designed for Social Studies taught within the UAE. It was created for mixed ability Y6 (Grade 5) students but could be suitable for any year group based on the content. The lesson involves student’s creating a timeline about the formation of the UAE. Great for incorperating themes within My Identity and Moral Education. Images were acquired with a search engine filtered to find images labelled for reuse. I hope that it saves you some valuable planning time.

In this lesson students explore some of the big issues that affect our world today. Students are encouraging to think about what wealthy countries can do to support and tackle these issues such as: child soldiers, modern slavery and torture. After exploring some of the issues students are encouraged to design a campaign in order to raise awareness. I have attached some example work in a photograph here. A quick 20-30 minute activity which encourages students to solve problems that may occur on a desert island. Students should be organised into groups of around 6 and given a piece of sugar paper to write down their ideas. You should set the scene and get them imagine the island. Comments are appreciated.
