This is a resource suitable for an entire lesson in upper KS2. The text is an aboriginal story called ‘The Spear’ and was taken from the website http://education.abc.net.au/home#!/digibook/2570774/dust-echoes, which has since been archived. The lesson introduces the concept of storytelling, the full text and comprehension activities. Available as a NOTEBOOK file, a POWERPOINT and also a PDF. I used this with Y5/6. Identify Features of a News Article

(4)
A funny news article about a fictional school which decides to serve rat meat for school dinners, yuck! I used this for my whole class to read and then work together to identify features: rhyme, repetition, alliteration etc. They can do this as a whole class, in small groups or individually, using the space on the worksheet to write down their observations. I used this with Y5/6 but it could be suitable for a variety of ages and abilities, depending on the specific features you choose to focus on. If you love this resource, please leave me a review!

Practice writing in a journalistic style with this adorable tiny tortoise, Tim, as an example! The resource includes a presentation for the whole class which goes over this article as an example before prompting the children to write their own based on certain given facts. At the end the children can assess each other’s work, if you like to use peer review in class, or they can submit their writing to be marked. Includes: Presentation for whole-class input (PowerPoint, Keynote and PDF file types) News article printable handouts Writing templates If you love it, please leave me a review!

Analysing Linguistic Features of a Text KS2

(1)
A whole-class presentation to discuss the meaning of literary terms such as alliteration, repetition and metaphor, plus an activity sheet (differentiated three ways) to support the children in analysing their own text. A good text to use is The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes (available in full for free online) or they could use any other text they are currently studying. If you love it, please leave me a review!
