This is my lesson 5 on Congress (Edexcel) and examines the changing role and powers of Congress over time in the USA. Starter quiz and debate colour coding sheet on the debate on whether Congress is more of a WATCHDOG or LAPDOG in oversight of executive branch. Examines changing role/ powers with such context as the era of the 13th Amendment, 1980s Party Polarisation and Trump with the deep factional divides within the GOP. Also examines the “TRump effect” on Congressional elections since 2016. OCR Tufdor Rebellions specification for ALevel This lesson (2-3 hours plus hwk) examines the causes, nature, events and impact of the Lady Jane Grey rebellion in 1553 against Mary Tudor. Lots of detailed resources to give you everything you need to teach this rebellion well.

How effectively does Congress fulfil its role of Representation in the USA? -Includes up to date examples and video links of AOC, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Marco Rubio etc. Very detailed- explains concepts of gerrymandering and pork barrel politics, incumbency advantage, caucuses etc. Lesson lasts around 2hours as I teach in doubles but can be broken down into smaller chunks. Edexcel Politics Component 3 but can be used for AQA also. This mega 2 hour lesson plus hwk examines how powerful the POTUS in the USA is for the key debate to end Topic 3 Includes retrieval of past knowledge re: President, note taking and discussion about unilateral actions of POTUS and limitations of these. Discussion/ ranking task of factors which can hinder/ help a POTUS achieve aims and a debate/ table of arguments about how imperial a President is alongside the discussion of whether a President may be described as Bifurcated. Also includes a colour code sheet for homework and a comparative task to prepare them for thinking about comparison to Prime Minister. Please note PNG images are for illustration only. Edexcel ALevel Politics spec but can be used for AQA as very similar. Lesson examining and analysing compartive Politics looking at various aspects of USA President and UK Prime Ministers including: -Role and Powers -Cabinets -Accountability to Legislatures/ Checks and balances -Styles of Government -RElationships between branches Also includes updated examples as of January 2024 including James Cleverly controversies and attempts to impeach Biden in US House due to increasing partisanship Includes little video clips to demonstrate examples or show comparisons and a full breakdown of the comparative theories for this topic. Includes a colour code to help students get used to understanding the different theories and how to apply them. Very detailed and no need for any additional resources although can be set as independent work with textbook but all info is contained within resources so no need to own the Bennett book- if you don’t have it ignore page references in the teacher notes. This lesson has a lot of resources, more than enough for 2 hours of lessons (probably 3 hours if you include video tasks) plus homework and there is a 12 mark exam question for Edexcel included.

Edexcel ALevel Politics (Can be used for AQA too) This two hour lesson examines the Electoral College system in the USA. It includes- how it works, explanation of strengths and weaknesses and colour code/ evaluation of argument exercise Case study of the 2020 Presidential election including the controversy links here to the Supreme Court topic- Ginni Thomas/ Clarence Thomas scandal. Includes data/ case study on participation and voting behaviour in this election. Also examines why Biden won.

Edexcel Government and Politics Lesson 3 Representative Democracy UK Complete lesson on Representative Democracy and its Features in the UK including some analysis and evaluation of how effective it is. Edexcel ALevel Politics Component 3 USA Politics Comparative Topic 4 Supreme Court and Civil Rights This is my Introduction lesson to the Court and key terms e.g. Stare Decisis, Loose/ Strict Constructivism and Originalism. Includes a key profile of the current court for a research homework and how they ruled on key cases e.g. Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Board of Health and New York state rifle assoc. v Bruen which cover key aspects of the divisive issues in the USA today e.g. abortion rights, gun control, voting rights, immigration and campaign finance. All the SCOTUS cases I cover are useful case studies for other topics due to the synoptic nature of the ALevel course, this helps students to join the dots. OCR ALevel Depth study as part of thematic Tudor Rebellions course. This resource will cover x4 hours of teaching plus homework- it also includes an example assessment (interpretations) witth feedback and a model paragraphs section. Edexcel Politicsc ALevel Paper 1 Feedback Note: This mock exam feedback and modelling is for the 2023 Paper but for Questions 1a/b and 2a/b only as I don’t teach Ideologies. This feedback powerpoint has common mistakes and key content for the exam questions 1a/b and 2a/b including a full modelled paragraph using the PEELE structure with clear evaluation and mini judgments. Also includes a purple pen response sheet with the modelled paragraphs to highlight and then space to write their own / example conclusions. Very detailed!

Analysis of the roles of Witte and Stolypin for the OCR Russia 1894-1941 ALevel course. Can also be used for other specs and for GCSE if you simplify it further. I made this in response to a 10 mark essay I set: Which of the following was more significant in bringing stability to Russia 1894-1941 Includes a powerpoint recapping and consolidating events of the prior four Dumas and the role of Witte and Stolypin. Includes information and evidence about both as well as a comparative analysis table with arguments about how they both increased and decreased stability with their policies.

Edexcel GCSE Superpower Relations and the Cold War This is my 4th lesson from Key Topic 3: The End of the Cold War but can be used as a stand alone lesson. In depth examination of who Reagan was, his ideas and beliefs and his policies including increased arms spending, rolling back Communism by funding guerrillas and the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) programme. Includes youtube video clips, source work and all the detail needed for students. Fully resourced nothing else needed. Examines how Reagan’s personality played a key role in developments from the Second Cold War to Gorbacev;s “New thinking” and need to reform the USSR (this is next lesson). Also includes a bumper retrieval practice for Key Topic 1 and 2 Highlighter Heads to help students recall key individuals from earlier in the Cold War (includes all key individuals from Roosevelt to Brezhnev, Dubcek and Husak). Edexcel Politics ALevel (Can also be used for AQA) This is a batch of revision end of topic checklists AND glossary/ key word sheets for all topics: Constitution Congress Presidency/ Executive Supreme Court and Civil Rights Democracy and Elections including Political Parties I have created some topic checklists for each topic from the spec with key bullet points for students to traffic light their confidence including key words at the bottom. For US Presidency and Supreme Court/ Civil Rights I have also included key case studies as I know students struggle with these.
