Edexcel ALevel Politics Component 3 USA Comparative Introduction to Congress and its structure and powers Fully comprehensive lesson (2 hours) which includes all necessary resources Includes up to date case studies relevant to all powers of Congress. This lesson has been planned using the 2021 Bennett textbook so all information has come from this source. Includes a starter looking at popular perceptions of Congress and discussion task around reasons for this. Card sort matching examples and descriptions of Congressional powers- sorting Exclusive from Concurrent powers of Congress.

ALevel lesson (2 hours long) on the Revolt of the Northern Earls 1569 Designed for OCR Tudors Rebellion and Disorder course- looks at the rebellion according to the themes- causes, nature, threat, reasons for defeat and impact. Very detailed and comprehensive resources, all information included- no textbook needed. Also includes analysis and evaluation tasks and critical thinking.

OCR ALevel History Russia 1894-1941 Topic 2: Towards a Constitutional Monarchy. This two hour lesson examines the creation of the Duma from the October Manifesto and the limits of the Fundamental laws. Also examines the challenges of the Duma and the makeup of them and why Nicholas dissolved them each time. Includes detailed information and all resources needed if you do not have textbook pages from Corin and Fiehn- I have typed up all necessary info onto documents to accompany the lesson.

Detailed and fully resourced 2 hour lesson on October manifesto and Fundamental laws as well as the Consequences of the 1905 Revolution and analysis of how far Oct manifesto stabilised Russia. How did the Tsar survive 1905? Analysis of the reasons 1905 was different to 1917. Detailed impact on political consequences including splits in the Liberal opposition- creation of the Kadets and Octobrist factions and also the impact on the Soviets and losing support temporarily for the SDs in the cities. Includes a vast range of resources and primary evidence from Tsar Nicholas II and Trotsky. ALevel OCR History Russia 1894-1941 but can be used for GCSE or other ALevel specifications.

KS3 lesson (can be adapted for KS4) using sources for students to independently investigate life in the trenches and why the casualty rate was so high. -Includes all resources- video clip of Harry Patch describing losing a fellow soldier and the injuries they suffered, sources and guided note taking sheet.

Edexcel ALevel Core Values of Socialism for Politics This lesson examines the core values underpinning Socialism as an ideology with some links to key thinkers and examples. Lesson 2 of my Socialism unit for Alevel. This lesson includes a range of resources including video clips to demonstrate the key ideas. This lessons should take 2-4 hours depending if you get students to do the Core Values independently and then go over it all to explain it after wards. I use both the Heywood and Pearson book for doing Core Values to give students for reading but if you have neither- a detailed summary of all ideas is contained on these slides.

Alevel Politics Lesson for Edexcel (can also be used for AQA or Sociology, Civics, Philosophy etc) -Ideologies Socialism lesson 1- Looks at origins of Socialism and the context of the Industrial Revolution as well as earlier examples. Robert Owen, Marx and Engels, Revolutionary Socialism and Evolutionary Socialism/ Social Democracy For a 2 hour lesson plus homework to research thinkers.

Edexcel ALevel Politics- can be adapted to AQA. This lesson (3 hours worth of work) uses the newest Bennett chapters (although almost all key notes are on slides). Examines similarities/ differences between UK and US Constitutions in terms of the three branches of government, nature/ origins, Federalism/ Devolution and also the Comparative theories.

Alevel lessons on Tudor Rebellions This is work for 2 2 hour lessons plus homework on the Nature and Threat of the Western rebellion. The Western Rebellion is one of the key rebellions which students need to study in depth for OCR ALevel. This lesson has a retrieval starter based on previous lesson. Colour code, mapping exercise to learn the narrative of the rebellion. Includes a detailed timeline/ chronology of the Western rebellion which will save you hours as I had to put it together from many different sources. Also includes a huge A3 threat evaluation sheet broken down into key criteria used to evaluate threat. This is a depth study so resources are very detailed. Analysis of threat based on all work done so far and a conclusion as well as a key debate on how violent the western rebels were.

Discussion tasks for students on the impact of Edward’s religious reform and Political context Venn diagram task to analyse causes Sources such as maps, rebel demands and a narrative of rebel actions to evidence causes. Key debates- was Western rebellion a response to political instability? Was Western rebellion a religious rising? Retrieval quizzes on Western rebellion as starters/ plenary. Assessment 30 mark interpretations on causes of Western rebellion. Model answer for above interpretations. Can be further complemented by pages from Fellows Access to History but not essential as there is plenty of factual info included. Very detailed as I’ve been improving this over three years, learning from mistakes as I’ve gone along!

Lesson made for OCR Russia ALevel 1894-1941 but can be adapted or used for other specs/ GCSE. This follows on from my previous lessons on Russia in 1894, Opposition to the Tsar and the RUsso-Japanese War however can be used as a stand alone lesson provided your students have prior knowledge of problems in Russia prior to 1905 etc. Includes all slides, video clip from Battleship Potemkin, card sort, analysis sheet, primary sources and analysis of why Mirsky’s appointment was significant, why Banqueting Campaigns were significant and why the Bloody Sunday protest was significant. Edexcel Politics ALevel but can be used for AQA or for US Civics lessons Third lesson in my series on the US Constitution which follows on from Origins and Principles. This lesson is based around evaluating the Constitution according to how fit for purpose it is. Includes all resources needed for a standalone lesson but will work best as a follow on from my previous lessons. OCR Alevel Tudor Rebellions course My third double lesson on the Pilgrimage of Grace for the Tudor Rebellions. As this is a depth study, students need to go into these themes in far greater depth. Includes a lot of information- suitable for a non specialist/ new to Tudor Rebellions teachers- saves you all the hard work of planning!
