This is a rhythmic song which tells of the conditions and systems in the coal mines over 100 years ago.
Suitable for Y1-8. it uses terms and phrases such as: ‘seams’, hold the line’, ‘putt’, ‘set the beams’.

This could be the perfect end to a christmas performance of any description. Tried and tested! Comes with lyrics and backing track and vocal backing track. It has a rock and roll feel and so there are lots of opportunities for dancing and hand actions. It is really fun; key change half way through adds to the sense of finale.
Suitable for primary age pupils. This song is a very simple one to learn with only two verses. The first features the soldiers going to war and the jobs that they leave. The second focusses on the women who replace the men in their jobs… ending with, ‘we can do anything!’.
