Welcome to my online resources shop. My name is Nicol and I am a primary school teacher will a variety of experience in different year groups. I predominately work in Year 5 and 6. I am also a children's book author and illustrator. I am passionate about encouraging children to read more and think more deeply about what they are reading. Many of the resources I create are suitable for challenging the greater depth children in the class and deepening the learning for the class as a whole.

Full English unit linked to the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

(0)
The purpose of this unit is to re-write the Jungle Book story in the children’s own words. The unit makes use of visual aids through some youtube videos. There are 17 lesson overviews for this unit and examples of what the children could produce are included to give you an idea of expectations and these can also be used to aid shared writing. This is a good unit to do at the start of the year in either year 5 or 6 as it helps the children to focus on the skills of writing in detail, writing shorter sections each day as opposed to writing a full piece over 1 or 2 lessons. Everything needed to teach this unit is included in the pack or is linked to except the Jungle Book story itself, which can be downloaded online or a physical copy purchased.

SATs style reading questions

5 Resources
This is a bundle of SATs style reading questions based on the free excerpts that can be found on love reading 4 kids. Some are content domain specific and others are mixed questions. They are based on texts that are suitable for Year 6 children. It works best if the children are given the text to read together either as a class or in pairs to discuss then give them the questions to answer independently.

Stories with pivots examples

(0)
For writing a story with a pivot, these examples of well know children’s stories will help your students to clearly see what is meant by a pivot. Explain to the children that a pivot involves a change in the story so that the character moves in a different direction to what they originally intended to. Suitable for upper KS2.
